chapter sixteen

"Bri, come on, get in the car!"

Briar threw her sword in the boot of the car and jumped into the car, Dude following as Evie jumped in after Briar and sat on her left while Carlos jumped in and sat on her right. Mal and Ben followed soon after with Jay and Lonnie in the front seats.

"Drive!" Evie yelled as Jay put his foot to the floor and the limo began driving. Briar sighed as she rested her head on Carlos' shoulder.

"You okay?" he asked, seeing the dark red stain on her arm.

"Yeah," she said, looking down, "Harry nicked me with that stupid hook." Carlos nodded, got a packet of tissues out from his pocket and began wiping the blood up as best as he could.

"I'm really sorry that things didn't go the way you wanted them to," Ben said as the blonde looked at the couple that was sat away from each other.

"I mean, as long as you're safe, that's. . . ." Mal said as Briar looked at him.

"Well, I mean, at least I got to see the Isle," Ben said as the blonde looked at him. "They're my people, too. Uma helped me see that." Mal looked at him in shock as Briar raised an eyebrow.

"Ben, Uma captured you," Mal said shocked.

"She's an angry girl with a bad plan," Ben said, "that's not so different from you when you came to Auradon, Mal." Mal scoffed in disbelief as Briar and Carlos exchanged looks.

"Awkward," Dude said as Briar looked down at the dog.

"Dude, I know you can talk, but it doesn't always mean you should," Carlos said as the blonde chuckled lightly.

"I'll get these back to the gym," Lonnie said once they had arrived in Auradon.

"Thanks," Jay said as Briar waved goodbye to Lonnie and carried on walking with Mal and Evie. Jane came up to Ben while Briar looked at Mal and Evie.

"We need to talk," Evie said, "come on B." She linked arms with Mal and Briar and the three girls made their way away from the boys, before they were stopped.

"No," Carlos said as the girls looked at him.

"No?" Briar asked.

"You guys are always going off in a huddle, whispering your girl talk stuff or whatever," Carlos said, "and Jay and I are tired of it."

"I'm not," Jay said as Carlos ignored him.

"We're your family, too," Carlos said, "we've been through a lot together. We're not stopping that now, okay?" Mal nodded as the blonde smiled. "Everyone sit." He sat cross legged on the floor as Briar looked at him amused. "Come on, you too Bri." Briar chuckled as she sat down in between Carlos and Mal. "I don't know how to start girl talk."

"What up?" Jay asked as Evie chuckled.

"Um, well, I'm a mess. I'm such a mess," Mal said, her voice breaking as Briar looked at her. "I mean, six months ago, I was, you know, stealing candy from babies, and now everybody wants me to be this Lady of the Court. And I have no idea how to keep up the act."

"Then don't," Carlos said.

"Mal?" Briar asked as the purple haired girl looked at her. "You tired so long and hard to be someone you weren't. You're always going to be the kids from the Isle, but that's okay. You guys did what you have to do to survive, and it's okay you're not like the rest of us." Mal nodded and smiled at the blonde as she looked at her. "You guys being from the Isle is what makes you, you and I know for a fact I wouldn't want you guys any other way."

The others smiled as Briar looked at Mal.

"I've known Ben since I was a year old," she said, "I know how he truly feels about you Mal, but if he can't see the real you, then that's his loss." Mal smiled sadly at the blonde as she sent a small smile back. "Give him a chance."

"I'm gonna make some changes to your dress," Evie said as the blonde looked at her. "And if you're up for it, only if you're up for it, it will be waiting for you, okay?" Mal smiled and nodded as Evie gave her a quick hug before nodding to the others to leave.

The blonde stood up and smiled as she rubbed the purple hair girl's shoulder before walking off.

"Hey, Bri!"

The blonde turned around and smiled when she saw Carlos hurrying towards her with Dude at his side.

"Hey," she said smiling.

"Do you still want to come to Cotillion with me?" he asked, "a-as my, my date?"

"I'd love to," she said smiling, "I have to go get ready, but I will meet you there."

"Brilliant!" he said as she smiled at him before hurrying away.
