chapter fourteen

"What were you thinking?!"
Briar was sitting in the VK's old hideout with Jay, Evie, Carlos and Mal as the purple-haired girl was mad with them all. Ben had been taken by Uma and her pirates.
"He was gonna come with or without us," Evie said, "we just wanted to protect him."
"Yeah, and we completely blew it, guys," Carlos said as Briar felt her heart beating in her chest.
"So, what are we gonna do?" Briar asked as Mal looked at her like she was crazy.
"We are not doing anything," she said as Briar furrowed her eyebrows.
"Why not?" Briar asked.
"You shouldn't even be here! You need to leave!" Mal snapped as Briar clenched her jaw.
"Do you want to know why I am here?" Briar snapped back. "Because my best friend came here to beg you to come home because you left him!
"This is not where you belong, Briar!" Mal snapped.
"Ben is my family, and I am not leaving without him, even if I have to get him myself!" she yelled, taking the other by surprise. Mal looked at Briar by surprise, and almost looked at her in a new light. "Now you go to Uma's bloody fish place or whatever it is, and get him back or you can answer to me, okay?"
"Fine," Mal said.
"Good," the blonde said. "We'll be here when you get back." And she sat down on the couch and stared Mal down.
Mal sighed as she left the hideout as Carlos sat next to Briar.
"You okay?"
"No!" she snapped as she looked at him. "I am not okay! My best friend has been captured by some psycho pirates, his girlfriend left and I'm under incredible stress from everything and nobody seems to notice because all they care about is the stupid Cotillion!" She put her head in her hands as she sighed. She got the small blue bottle out of her pocket, took the lid off and downed it in one.
"Is that safe?" Evie asked as the blonde nodded.
"Merryweather said to take it when I need it most," the blonde said as she smiled weakly, "and right now, I think I need it most."
"Er, Bri?" Carlos asked, staring at the blonde.
"What?"
"Your eyes," Jay said, looking just as shocked. The blonde walked to a cracked mirror and her eyes went wide when she saw her once diamond blue eyes were now glowing an electric blue. She furrowed her eyebrows and looked down at her hands and saw blue sparks forming at the fingertips.
"Oh no," she said as she sighed.
"What?" Evie asked as Briar blinked and her eyes went back to normal.
"I got the wrong potion," she said, "ever since Mom got cursed, a bit of the curse lives in her. The potion she takes helps the curse not go bad, and now I've got it." She looked at the bottle and saw there was a note on the bottom. She turned the bottle upside down and read. "Huh, never mind."
"What?"
"It's not the wrong potion," she read out loud, "the curse lives inside you too. Use it well. M." She chuckled as she shook her head. "Well, looks like Mal's not the only one with cool glowing eyes," she said chuckling as Carlos grinned at her.

"There's no way we're gonna give Uma the wand," Mal said. She came back an hour later, without Ben. "We can't just let her destroy Auradon."
"Uma doesn't get the wand, then Ben is toast," Briar said, sighing as she looked at the others.
"Right, so, we're gonna give Uma, of all people, the wand," Evie was saying as the blonde furrowed her eyebrows.
"Do we have another choice?"
"Wait! You guys!" Briar said as she stood up and grinned, "your 3D printer."
"A phony wand?" Mal asked as the blonde nodded.
"Yes!" Carlos said as the blonde smiled. "In my sleep."
"And the second Uma tests it, she'll know it's fake," Evie said as the blonde pursed her lips.
"Well, okay, so then we just get Ben out really fast," she said, "we need some kind of diversion."
"Smoke bombs!" Jay said as the blonde smiled.
"That's perfect," Evie said, "I'll get the chemicals I need from Lady Tremaine's place."
"That could work," Mal said. She turned to Briar. "B, you'll be with us. Besides, Dizzy wants nothing more than to meet a real life Princess." The blonde chuckled as she nodded.
"Oh, and sick hair, by the way," Evie said as she touched the end's of Mal's new hair. "Evil Stepmom seriously stepped up her game."
"Okay, do you want to know something?" Mal asked, "Dizzy did this."
"Little Dizzy?" Evie asked shocked as Briar looked at her hair. "Shut up!"
"I know," Mal said, just as shocked.
"Could she do my hair?" the blonde asked as Dizzy asked.
"I think that would make her entire year," Evie said.
"I'm, like, loving it," Briar said, looking at Mal's hair.
"It's, like, a lot lighter," the purple haired girl said as the three girls.
"Really proud of her," Evie said as the blonde smiled. As the three girls were talking, Jay cleared his throat to get their attention.
"Hello?" Carlos called as the three girls looked at each other and then back at the boys.
"Right," Mal said, "Carlos, Jay, you guys meet us at Pirates Bay no later than noon. And, you guys, losing, not an option."
Briar sighed as she grabbed her jacket and put it on as she looked at the others.
"Let's go," the blonde said.
◇ ◇ ◇ ◇
"Shh."
The three girls had arrived at Lady Tremaine's Curl Up and Dye and little Dizzy was sat with her back to the door.
Briar and Mal nodded as Evie quietly walked towards the younger girl and put her hands on her shoulders.
"Evie?" she asked shocked, "Evie! You came back!"
"Hi! Hey, so great to see you, too," Mal said as Briar laughed and came into view.
"No way, is that a real life Princess?" Dizzy asked, seeing Briar who grinned.
"This is Briar," Mal said as the blonde smiled and let out a chuckle as the young girl hugged her tightly.
"You're so beautiful!" Dizzy said as the blonde smiled.
"Thank you," she said, "but I have a favour to ask you. I saw what a good job you did on Mal's hair, could you add a bit of blue into mine?" Dizzy looked like she was going to faint as the blonde laughed.
"Take a seat!" she said as the blonde sat down while Mal and Evie began to make smoke bombs.
