chapter four

"Mom said, if a boy can't see the beauty within, then he's not worth it."

A few hours later, Briar was sitting in Mal and Evie's room with the two VKs and Jane. Evie was sewing a dress, Mal was lying on her bed drawing while Jane was pacing and Briar was sitting in front of Mal's bed, reading a book.

"Can you believe it?" Jane was going on, "what world does she live in?"

"Auradon," Mal said sarcastically as Briar chuckled.

"Mal, do you like?" Evie held up the blue dress she was sewing as Mal didn't even look up.

"Yeah. It's cute," she said, "it brings out your eyes."

"I know," Evie said as Briar chuckled.

"I'll never get a boyfriend," Jane complained as Briar sighed.

"Boyfriends are overrated," Briar and Mal said together as they looked at each other and fist-bumped. At that moment, there was a knock at the door. Briar got up and walked towards it and opened it.

"Carlos," she said, slightly confused, "hi. Do you need Mal or Evie?" She turned around to look at the girls.

"Er, no," he said as Briar turned back to him while the three girls behind them exchanged grins, "I er, I wanted to ask if you, er had Dude."

"Er no," she said chuckling, "you have him." Carlos looked down and saw the dog sat at his feet.

"Right," he said as Briar smiled. "Um, okay, just wanted to check." Briar smiled as Carlos nodded. "Okay, bye."

He hurried away as Briar chuckled and shut the door. She turned around and was met with looks from Mal, Evie and Jane.

"What?" she asked.

"Looks like someone has a crush," Mal teased as Briar went pink.

"I don't know what you mean," she said, sorting her hair out and sitting back down. "I don't have a crush on Carlos."

"We were talking about Carlos' crush on you," Evie said as Briar looked up, "not about you."

"R-Right," the blonde said. Before she could say anything else, there was another knock at the door and Briar's good friend, Lonnie walked in.

"Hey, guys!" she said happily as Briar waved, "I'm Lonnie. My mom's Mulan? No?" Mal and Evie gave her a blank look as Briar chuckled. "Anyways, I love what you've done with Jane's hair. And I know you hate us, and, well, you're evil. But do you think you could do mine?"

"Why would I do that for you?" Mal asked as Briar looked at her and then at Lonnie.

"I'll pay you fifty dollars," she said, holding up a blue bag and jingled the coins.

"Good answer. I need to buy more material," Evie said, getting up from the chair and grabbing the bag. "Let's see, I'm thinking, we lose the bangs, maybe some layers and some highlights."

"Yeah, yeah," Lonnie said, "I want it cool. Like Mal's."

"Really?" Evie asked as Mal looked at her. "The split ends, too?"

Mal sent her a glare, but Evie jingled the coin bag and sent her a look. The purple haired girl groaned and slid of her bed before getting her spell book out.

"Okay," she said, looking through her book. "Beware, forswear, replace the old with cool hair."

Lonnie's short black bob magically transformed into mid length, curly brown hair. Lonnie walked to the mirror and stared at herself in awe.
