Jiwoo and Wooin approached their teacher's desk, the older man's expression shifting from confusion to concern as he took in their appearance. The teacher's peppered hair was neatly combed, though the weariness in his oval eyes and the deep lines etched beneath them spoke volumes of the years he had spent dealing with students and their myriad problems. He looked up from his cluttered desk, where stacks of papers and an old coffee mug stood testament to his long hours.
"What's this now?" he asked, his voice tinged with incredulity. "You two were in another car accident? Didn't you just have one not too long ago?"
Jiwoo and Wooin exchanged glances, the weight of the situation settling heavily between them. Jiwoo's face was a mixture of discomfort and apology as he took a deep breath. His teacher's disbelief was almost palpable.
The teacher's brows furrowed as he processed the information. "You're telling me that you two and Jisuk, that boy from the class next door, were in the same car and a truck rammed into you? Is that right?"
Jiwoo nodded vigorously, feeling the strain of the situation. "Yes, sir, that's right. It's... it's all true."
In his mind, Jiwoo replayed the conversation he had with Inhyuk earlier. Inhyuk had assured him with an overly confident thumbs-up that he had already spoken to everyone about the situation, telling them to rest and not worry about school. He had used this excuse before, and it had always worked in the past, but now it felt as though the seams of the story were starting to show. The teacher's skepticism wasn't helping, and Jiwoo could almost feel the tension in the air.
The teacher let out a long sigh, leaning back in his chair, clearly trying to reconcile the story with his own sense of reality. "Well, I suppose it's true enough," he said, his tone softening. "You both are lucky you weren't more severely injured. It must've been quite a scare."
Jiwoo, feeling a surge of relief mixed with embarrassment, offered a small, respectful bow. "We're sorry for worrying you, sir. It was indeed quite terrifying."
The teacher waved a hand dismissively, his stern demeanor melting into something more empathetic. "Don't worry about it. It must have been a harrowing experience. Just make sure to take care of yourselves. You both need to recover properly."
Jiwoo gave his teacher a hesitant, grateful smile. "Thank you, sir. We will."
As they turned to leave, Jiwoo couldn't help but reflect on Inhyuk's rather unorthodox methods of handling their situation. The man had been supportive, but his approach often left Jiwoo feeling uneasy. This time was no different. The ease with which Inhyuk had brushed off their concerns made Jiwoo wonder if he was becoming too casual about these things. It seemed that Inhyuk was adept at navigating these sticky situations, but his methods always left Jiwoo feeling a bit uncertain.
