Hello, readers!
To make the story more engaging, I'm going to be giving names to some of the less central characters, aka Jisuk's friends. This way, I won't have to keep referring to them by descriptions like "the brown-haired boy" or "the black-haired boy." If it ever gets confusing, I'll reconsider.
Thanks for your understanding, and enjoy the story!

In the dimly lit laboratory, the air was thick with tension and the acrid smell of chemicals. Dr. Delein paced back and forth, his face twisted with rage and frustration. He moved with a furious energy, his shoes tapping a staccato rhythm against the cold, concrete floor. Rows of cages lined the walls, their occupants—unwitting subjects of cruel experiments—now eerily silent.
"Why doesn't it work?!" Dr. Delein bellowed, his voice echoing through the sterile room. His fist slammed into the nearest cage, causing a metallic clang that reverberated through the space. The cats inside, their eyes dull and lifeless, lay unmoving. "Why?! That one worked... I used the same drug! Why doesn't it work?!"
He turned sharply, his gaze snapping to Wooin, who stood at the edge of the room. The young man's posture was tense, his eyes avoiding the chaotic scene before him.
"Wooin!" Dr. Delein's voice was a venomous snarl. "Are you sure these are all dead? Not like the awakened one that got away?!"
Wooin nodded, his voice calm despite the storm brewing around him. "Yes, sir. I confirmed it myself. It's been over an hour since it went into cardiac arrest."
"Goddammit!" Dr. Delein spat, raking his fingers through his gray hair. He crouched down, tugging at his thinning locks in a gesture of helpless frustration. "It's really dead, then! All our work... useless!"
Wooin's gaze dropped to the floor, his shoulders sagging under the weight of the professor's anger. He had long since grown accustomed to these outbursts, but the guilt and helplessness still gnawed at him.
The professor's voice dropped to a hoarse whisper, more to himself than to Wooin. "I need more time... We need to show some results... or the trackers will be on us soon..." His eyes, wild with desperation, darted to Wooin, as if searching for a scapegoat. "Wooin! Bring more animals to experiment on!"
"Professor..." Wooin began cautiously. "We've used all the animals we have."
Dr. Delein shot up to his full height, his sudden movement causing Wooin to flinch. "All of them? Then go catch some more!" His voice was a sharp bark, filled with a manic urgency.
Wooin took a deep breath, steadying himself. "People are starting to notice animals disappearing from this area," he protested gently, his voice carefully measured. "The police have intervened as more and more reports are filed."
