Seongha and Inhyuk stood in front of Jiyoung's imposing desk. The room was bathed in the soft glow of the afternoon sun, casting long shadows that seemed to emphasize the tension in the air. Jiyoung sat with her hands folded carefully in her lap, her eyes steady and unwavering as she regarded the two men before her.
"I don't understand why you insist on keeping those three in the same hospital room," Seongha sighed, breaking the silence. His tone was weary, as if the situation had been a long-standing burden. "Jisuk and Wooin are constantly causing trouble."
Inhyuk's eyes flashed with irritation as he shot a sharp look at Seongha. "How dare you question the chairwoman's decision?" he snapped, his lips curling back in a sneer.
Jiyoung raised a hand, silencing Inhyuk with a mere gesture. "They're the awakened ones that will represent our country in the future," she explained calmly. "They aren't meant to be enemies."
Inhyuk gave Seongha a cutting look. "How is the Union planning on caring for Wooin?"
"What's that supposed to mean?" Seongha retorted, his voice edged with disdain.
"Doesn't the Union think poorly of Wooin and his professor, Dr. Delein?" Inhyuk smirked, his eyes gleaming with a mixture of triumph and challenge. "Why don't we take him off your hands?"
Seongha's eyes remained cold and impassive. "Officially, Wooin is registered under our management."
"It's not like you're looking out for his well-being," Inhyuk snickered. "You're only watching him because he's Dr. Delein's student." Seongha's silence only fueled Inhyuk's confidence. "Now that you've seen his powers in person, are you thinking about making him a Union member?"
"I have no reason to answer you," Seongha seethed, taking a step closer to Inhyuk, his presence radiating barely-contained fury. "And to be quite frank, I'd have the right mind to assume that Shinhwa would have taken the same approach toward F/N, seeing how he's the son of the sole heir of Dr. L/N's research." His lip twitched in a barely concealed sneer. "There'd be nothing to hold the Union back from holding an investigation regarding Shinhwa and their holding of F/N."
"Enough!" Jiyoung's voice rang out, sharp and commanding, her eyes hard as they bored into the two men. She turned her attention to Seongha, her expression stern. "I will not sit here and listen to hypotheticals about my own association. If you truly believe—"
The sudden sound of Inhyuk's phone ringing cut Jiyoung off, her sentence hanging in the air. Inhyuk flushed slightly with embarrassment, his cheeks reddening as he fumbled for his phone.
"Sorry, Chairwoman," he murmured, bowing his head before slipping the phone out of his pocket and raising it to his ear.
"Inhyuk," came the voice of a Shinhwa nurse, tense and urgent. "We need you to come. These three are going at it again."
