Jiwoo limped slowly down the sidewalk, his crutch tapping rhythmically against the pavement. Beside him, Kayden, in his orange tabby form, padded along with a sense of purpose. Every few steps, Jiwoo winced as he accidentally put too much weight on his injured leg, the sharp pain shooting up his calf.
"What were you doing here, Mr. Kayden?" Jiwoo asked, glancing down at the cat who was keeping pace with him.
Kayden paused, looking up with his intense, feline eyes. "Well..." he began, his voice carrying a mix of nonchalance and concern. "I thought I'd take a look around. And, to be honest, I was a bit worried about you after what happened recently." He huffed, as if trying to mask his concern with irritation. "And of course, you go off and cause more trouble."
Jiwoo smiled sheepishly, a light blush coloring his cheeks. "I'm sorry for making you worry, Mr. Kayden."
They continued walking in a companionable silence, the hum of the city around them filling the gaps in their conversation. The breeze rustled the leaves in the trees lining the street, and the distant sound of children playing echoed softly in the background. After a while, Kayden broke the silence again, his voice softer this time.
"Hey... Jiwoo..."
"Yes?" Jiwoo responded, his curiosity piqued by the uncharacteristic tone in Kayden's voice.
"Living with you and F/N for these past few days," Kayden started, choosing his words carefully, "I've gotten a sense of what your life must have been like. You've always avoided confrontation, haven't you? Even though your awakened powers would have given you a huge advantage. It's not just about fighting— it's about making friends, too. You probably avoided that, afraid people would discover your powers."
Jiwoo bit his lip, his eyes dropping to the ground as he struggled to find the right words. "You're..." he began, his voice trailing off. "You're right. I was always terrified of the strange things I could do, scared that they were bad." He paused, a blush creeping onto his cheeks that didn't escape Kayden's notice. He fiddled with the collar of his school uniform, lost in thought.
"When I met F/N... it was the first time I genuinely connected with someone my age. Someone who, for some reason, didn't judge me. He knew who I was and accepted it. It was... scary. Strange, even. When he moved away, I felt like I lost the one thing that made me feel safe, the one person who understood me. I'm so... happy... that he's back in my life."
Kayden watched Jiwoo with unreadable eyes, absorbing the young boy's heartfelt confession. He stopped walking, causing Jiwoo to turn back, a question in his eyes.
"You don't need to be afraid anymore," Kayden said firmly, his voice steady and reassuring. "You are awakened. Your powers aren't strange, and they're certainly not something to be ashamed of. You should be proud. Many people would envy what you can do." He gave Jiwoo a small, encouraging smirk. "Don't be afraid. Embrace your powers. We can handle anyone who even thinks about taking us down."
