And we're trusting this ... because?

"Because why the hell not? Now lets get a move on. Come Juny, lead the way." The bird flew towards my shoulder, and leaned towards the way of the door.

"Give her a chance, Koria is a good woman." I just about screamed as the bird spoke delicately into my ear.

You'd think you'd be used to talking animals by now. Genie laughed.

"In my head, not out loud!" She continued with her laughing as we made our way out of the tiny one room cabin.

We had taken shelter under the trees after three days of trekking through the mountains. Juny had told us there was a clump of villages a few hours west, so we did everything we could to avoid them.

Despite the fact we were far away from people, I felt the spark of electricity I only felt with the witch, on the other witches paper, and around my old village.

"Theres something here, I can feel it." Juny made a face before speaking.

"You can feel it too? I knew you were powerful, but I thought it was mostly locked away."

Thats not an answer. Genie spoke up, attitude full force.

The two hadn't gotten close over our trek through the mountains.

Genie didn't like to share, and wasn't used to me paying much attention to any other animal besides her.

Nor did she seem to approve of my new friendship.

"Could you stop being so loud and speaking so vulger." Juny squaked.

Maybe stop being such an as-

"Both of you! Both of you are bing rude! So stop acting like men and learn to get along."

"Uhm... I am a male though." Juny piped up.

No shit Sherlock! Genie spoke before I could respond.

"Hush before I make a meal of you two. Don't doubt me either, I'm hungry."

That managed to shut the two of them up, at least for a few moments before Genie spoke up.

"So... wanna give some more detail to her 'power'?"

With a sigh, which before now, I wouldn't have expected from a crow.

"There are creatures, small ones, that emit a low level of power. Usually only powerful or experienced ones can sense that power. Most animals can as well. With Alina not having decades of experience, that means she must truly be powerful."

Well I could've told you that. She breathes purple glitter in the winter.

"I- I What?" I stammered.

Yeah, you sleep best in the winter, or after you workout. The better you sleep, the weirder you sleep.

"Gee, thanks for telling me bestie."

No problem! Her eyes were bright as she gave a foxy smile.

"I hate you."

You loooove me. She said, stretching out the word 'love'.

With a sigh and an eyeroll, I noticed the crow had been only silent durring the exchange.

"You good Juny?"

The bird ruffled his feathers before responding.

"My apologies, I was just sending this information back to Koria. She'll meet us tomorrow. For now however, we should take camp."

"Could you tell me more of the magical creatures? Please!" I swear the crow rolled his eyes, before telling us to set camp first.

He flew up to a branch about six feet off the ground, and watched as Genie and I grabbed sticks and rocks to make a makeshift fireplace.

I miss TV.  Genie complained.

"I miss centralized heating. And cars."

Heated seats!

"Running water."

Corn dogs.

"Cinnamon twists."

Fries.

"Stores"

"That's plenty of wood." Juny called out.

"Lighters." I grumbled as I looked down at the wood. We had made a nice circle from the stones, now how the hell am I supposed to start the fire.

Genie cackled, I could feel her presence in my mind as she was reading my thoughts.

Have fun rubbing wood!

"Fuck me."

"Both of you, hush. Now, Alina, I'm going to guide you through harnessing your power to start the fire."

"Uh huh, and next I'll make it rain." I said sarcastically.

"Please don't. Now, I want you to put your hand over the wood. No, closer."

The bird looked pissed as I hovered my hand a few feet over the wood.

"My legs hurt, I don't want to bend over anymore."

Oh please, you love bending over. You just need the right motivation. Genie joked.

Ignoring her snide commentary, I squatted. The bird was giving me a death glare.

"Please, stop referring to me as 'the bird' in your mind. Now, focus. Remeber the feeling of heat and focus it on your hand."

I listened, and after about a minute or two, I felt something slither through from my chest up and through my arm and down to my hand.

"Good, now imagine the feeling of heat radiating from your hand."

"Huh?"

"Lord, you modern humans are annoying. Imagine the feeling of fire below your hand, like your hand is warming from it."

An explosion of heat burst through, and I jumped back, screaming as it flew through the air before disperseing in the sky.

What the flying fuck was that?! Genie screamed, jumping on my stomach. I was now flat down on my back.

God damn! You're burning!

"Really, because I feel cold." She ignored my sass, and after making sure I was okay, encouraged me to try again.

"Fuck, fine. I'll try again."

This time, anticipating the heat and explosion, I grounded myself.

The same heated slithering feeling hit again, picking up both speed and heat as it passed through me and into the pile of wood. The pressure and wind around it caused the wood to move, one peice even flying a few feet away. But the fire was lit, so it was a win . . . I guess?

"That was..." Juny trailed off, shaking his tiny head.

"Good job. We'll work on it later."

Are you kidding me? She just defied . . .like . . . Every rule of nature! Be more of a Deppy Downer why don't you!

With a breathy laugh, I pulled my foxy friend to my chest, and breathed out a sigh. God, I don't know if the exhaustin was from the fire or the three day trek, but I was beat.

"You did well child, now rest. You have a big day tomorrow."

With that, I focused on the rhythm of Genie's breathing and fell asleep.

A/N
Wasn't full of much, but I thought showing their dynamic would work.

Lemme know how you're feeling, Vote and Comment please?
