"You know,Boy,I don't appreciate this being called at work. I thought something awful happened to you." Wayne says.

"I'm sorry,Wayne. I told them not to call you. They just didn't wanna do any paperwork." Eddie defended himself as he kicked off his shoes and sits at the dinner table about to bite into his burger that Wayne bought from Benny's Burgers on their way home from the police station.

Wayne joins his nephew at the table and unwraps his food. He was about to take a bite when he drops it down on the table.

"The Harrington boy didn't even press charges,so what paperwork would be involved? Couldn't you have called a friend? Hours lost waitin' for you down there."

"I'm sorry,Wayne. And I could have but, I just wanted to come home. I had a shit night. If one of them would've come they would have just wanted to go and hangout more."

"What about— "

"Don't. Don't say her name."

Wayne looks at Eddie with concern.

"What'd you do now?"

"It's sort of the reason why I was at the station. I seen her and Harrington at the carnival and I sort of lost my cool."

The two continued to eat in silence for a few minutes before Wayne started.

"And what? You seen them kissing? Holding hands?" Wayne spoke with annoyance.
"You said you lost your cool? Were they makin' out, groping eachother maybe?"

Eddie shakes his head in disgust.

"They were just hanging out."  Eddie says.
"They were hugging."

"Hugging? You punched a kid for hugging (Y/n)?"

"I love her,Uncle Wayne."

Wayne smiles at his nephew knowingly.

Eddie throws a wadded up napkin at Wayne's face.

"I think someone outta put his big boy pants on and get his shit together."

"She knows how I feel. Kind of."

"I doubt she does. Not really anyhow. Listen here. You're nearly an adult now,Eddie. It's time to do away with all this childish bullshit. You think that sweet girl is really gunna wanna be proud to be on your arm, being known as the town weed dealers girl? Her Mother will hate it,that's for sure."

"Her Mother loves me. Her Dad,not so much."

"I think you know what you gotta do,son."

"And I've been doing it,Uncle Wayne!"

"Have you? Or are you just going through the motions? "

Eddie lets Wayne's words sink in and nods in agreement.

Monday morning you were heading to your locker to grab your books for zero period. You were already 10 minutes late so you were rushing to grab the correct folder with your class work in it. In an attempt to put it into your backpack you missed and the folder and all its contents went flying to the ground.

"Damn it!" You cursed, kneeling down to start collecting your papers that littered the floor.

"One too many mimosas this morning?" Eddie joked, helping you gather your papers.

You both stood up as he handed you a stack of papers. You yanked them from his hands and stuff them into your bag. Slamming your locker shut and take a step around him to leave.

"Think maybe we can talk?" He asked.

"I'm late." You say flatly as you continued to head toward your class.
