Leah's POV:
The soft morning light filtered through the curtains, warming the room as I slowly woke up. I could feel Lucy's arm draped over my waist, her soft breaths tickling the back of my neck. Today was my birthday, and there was no better way to start it than waking up next to her. I smiled, feeling a swell of happiness in my chest as I remembered all the plans we had for the day.
I shifted slightly, turning to face Lucy, who was still fast asleep. She looked so peaceful, her lips slightly parted, a small smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. I couldn't resist leaning in to kiss her forehead gently, careful not to wake her just yet. But she stirred anyway, her eyes fluttering open.
"Morning, birthday girl," she mumbled sleepily, her voice husky with sleep.
"Morning," I whispered back, unable to stop grinning. "I'm officially one year older."
"And still just as gorgeous," Lucy teased, pressing a soft kiss to my lips. "Happy birthday, Leah."
"Thanks," I murmured, my heart swelling at the affection in her eyes.
We stayed in bed for a while, enjoying the rare luxury of not having to rush anywhere. Eventually, though, Lucy propped herself up on her elbow, giving me a mischievous look. "So, how about we start your birthday off right?"
"I like the sound of that" Leah responded and didn't hesitate to flip me onto my back
"I was going to offer to make you breakfast" I joked
"shut up and kiss me" Leah responded, our lips crashing together
A few hours later we decided we probably should get out of bed, so we both threw on something casual and prepared to head out.
We walked hand in hand to a little café down the street, the morning air crisp and cool. The café was one of our favorites—cozy, with delicious food and a warm atmosphere. When we arrived, we were greeted by the familiar smell of freshly brewed coffee and pastries.
We settled into a seat in the corner, our relationship was still a secret for the most part after all.
Lucy reached across the table, taking my hand in hers. "How does it feel to be another year older?" she laughed
I chuckled, shrugging.
"I can already see your first wrinkle showing" luce said before I could answer the question, reaching over the table and touching my forehead
"yeah its from all the stress you cause me" I respond, jokingly of course
"you wouldn't have it any other way" Lucy says smiling
We ordered our breakfast—pancakes for me, eggs and toast for Lucy—and spent the next hour chatting and laughing over our food. It was easy, comfortable, like every moment we spent together. I couldn't help but feel incredibly lucky to have her by my side, especially on a day like today.
By the time we arrived back at my apartment, it was almost time to head to my parents' place. I had promised mum that we'd stop bye, and I wasn't going to break that, as much as I just wanted to spend the day on the sofa with Lucy.
I haven't seen my family as much as I usually do. I blame football and other commitments, but everyone knew it was just Lucy. being in a relationship just added one more thing onto my plate, a plate that was already full.
I struggled with that sometimes, but I didn't ever mention it, I didn't want Lucy thinking that I would have it any other way, because I wouldn't, I wouldn't change it for the world.
We arrived at my parents' house in the early afternoon, greeted by the familiar sight of the cozy home where I'd spent so much of my life. My mum was the first to greet us, pulling me into a warm hug.
