"Do I need to pull out the candy again?" Mateo asks. "Do you need candy just to motivate you to answer correctly?"
( A/N: Incase you don't remember, he's referring to the time he gave her a piece of candy everytime she got a question correct. This was earlier in the book.)
"Maybe you should give me something else instead." I grin.
He quickly picks up on the implied meaning and pulls my chair closer to his. "How about I give you a kiss every time you get a question right."
Spoiler alert- we didn't do a whole lot of kissing. We had blown off tutoring for sex so many times that my grades were starting to slip again.
Mateo sighs. "How can you be so good at one thing but so bad at school."
"What am I good at, hmm?" I ask playfully.
"Cheer."
"Oh shut up, that is not what you were thinking and you know it."
"Whatever helps you sleep at night, beautiful."
He continued to pepper me with questions until finally, finally I got one correct!
I grinned. "Alright now pucker up."
He laughed before crashing his lips to mine. Unlike our other kisses this one was more slow and sweet, if you ignore his hands tugging on my hair.
"I thought I told you not to fall in love with him." Said a voice coming from Mateo's bedroom door that I know as my lifetime best friend.
I stilled. Fuck, Lacy. I could feel her eyes burning holes in the back of my head.
The second she said the word 'love', Mateo's eyes widened and gave me a confused look. "What's she talking about-"
I turned around to find Lacy looking like she was already plotting Mateo's murder, and probably mine too.
Lacy had walked away so I ran after her "I'll explain later!" I yelled at Mateo.
I needed to go after Lacy. I wasn't about to ruin a lifelong friendship over a man, it doesn't matter how good he is in bed- or against walls.
By the time I left Mateo's room, Lacy was already halfway down the stairs so I did my best to catch up with her. "Lacy please, let me explain." I pleaded.
"Not here." She said as she grabbed the keys to her car. "I need a whole lot of coffee."
:::::
I rode with her all the way to a nearby coffee shop and we didn't speak to each other the entire time.
Knowing Lacy, it was probably for the best that she waited to get coffee in her system first. Although, my head had so many thoughts.
What if the coffee gives her an energy boost and she just unleashes it on me. What if she threw the coffee on me? What if-
"Im gonna need like four extremely large cups of coffee." Lacy says to the woman at the counter.
The worker saw me lurking behind Lacy and gave me a sympathetic look. How does she know?
We sat down at a small table by the window and Lacy immediately drank over half a cup of coffee.
"Start from the beginning, leave nothing out." She said.
"Well..I guess it started at your party that you threw for Yuri when I got super wasted and Mateo drove me home." I began to tell her everything that happened, exactly how it happened. Minus the fact that we weren't actually dating. She didn't need to know that.
By the time I finished explaining everything, I noticed that she had already finished almost all four coffees. God damn.
"Why didnt you tell me?" She asked, and it had looked like she was genuinely hurt that I didnt tell her.
"I- I knew you would be mad."
"What gave you that idea?" She furrowed her eyebrows.
"Well- Your mad right now. Arent you?"
She glared at me, flicking a piece of hair out of her face. "I'm mad because you didn't tell me."
"Your my bestfriend, we tell each other everything, but you felt that you couldnt tell me?"
"Im sorry."
"Even if it was about my brother, I wanted you to call me and tell me everything so we could gush and obsess over it like we always do. I never got to gossip with you or give you advice. You didnt let me in. You hurt me, Bridgette."
"Im sorry."
"And you've been so distant lately." She took a drink of her coffee. "I knew you were hiding something, even Lexus and Isabel seemed off."
I sighed. "...Lexus and Isabel already knew."
She furrowed her eyebrows. "So you told them and not me? You just completely shut me out, is that it?"
"No!" I yelled so loud it attracted the attention of other customers. "I didnt tell them, they found out on their own. If I was going to tell anybody, I would have told you first."
"How did they find out?"
"You know them. Lexus is like a freaking detective. When Matthew and I first started dating, she knew immediately. With Isabel, Lexus probably told her. Plus her brother kind of called Mateo's phone in the middle of- well, you know."
Lacy's mouth dropped wide open. "Oh! Wow-, um- alright then."
"S-so." I stutter. "Are we..good?"
She smiled. "We are good. However, im going to beat the shit out of Mateo."
So maybe I didnt tell her the full truth and she thinks were together but I mean..atleast I dont have to lie anymore.
