"Your teacher called me." My mother says as soon as I come out of my bedroom.

Anticipation hits me like a bag of bricks.

My parents have always been uptight about grades, they want me and my siblings to follow in their footsteps of becoming lawyers.

"Mom-" I start to say but she cuts me off quickly.

"You kids don't understand how hard your father and I worked to give you guys everything you want or need and this is how you guys repay us?"

She acts like the only thing that matters is our grades. My blood starts to boil and I feel like exploding but instead I just say "I know and I'm sorry. My teacher assigned me a tutor, so now my grades will get a lot better."

"She told me that." She replies before taking a sip of her iced coffee. "But I know that your tutor is Lacy's brother so you better not be lying to my face. I have talked to Mrs. Sinclaire and she agreed to keep a close eye on you guys so you're not sneaking into Lacy's bedroom during your tutoring."

Damn she's good. I was planning on talking to Lacy every chance I could while I'm at the Sinclaire's house.

"That's great but unnecessary mom. I really don't want to repeat my junior year so I promise I won't be spending all my time with Lacy."

"I love you bridgette, but I'm your mom. I've got eyes in the back of my head." She exclaims, walking towards me. "I don't trust a word that comes out of your mouth."

As if the feeling isnt mutual.

I discretely roll my eyes, I dont think her back of the head eyes are quite working.

"Well, im off to school." I say waving goodbye.

"Pay attention. Learn something." She yells as I walk out of the door, rolling my eyes again.

After school ends I head to Lacy's house, prepared to be bored out of my mind the entire time I'm there.

"Alright." Lacy exclaims. "See you in two hours."

"See you." I wave goodbye, heading up to Mateo's room.

"Oh and by the way, please dont fall in love with him." Lacy jokes.

I laugh before darting up the stairs.

I knock on Mateo's door and when he opens the door, he's shirtless.

His eyes widen. "Sorry! I thought you were my dad."

I laugh. "Put some clothes on, smart boy."

"Yeah, Yeah um I'll do that." He says with a hint of shyness in his voice.

I close the door and watch as he puts a shirt on. The thin fabric slides right over his dark chocolate hair.

He nods toward his desk. "Sit there."

I sit down at his desk as he pulls a second chair and a folder out of his closet.

He casually sits down and his beautiful blue eyes meet mine.

"Here." Mateo says, dropping the folder on the desk in front of me. "Take out the first three pages and answer all the questions on them."

"Whats this for?" I ask.

"Well I think the most efficient thing to do is start out with your worst subject, and as a member of our schools tutoring program, I have access to all your previous records involving grades and test scores."

Well, I am fucked. Now he knows just how stupid I am.

"I noticed that you have never done well with any sort of mathematics." He says handing me a pencil and calculator. "So those are a bunch of math questions for you to solve so I can see just how much mathematics you know."
