Chloe Charming had been looking all over the castle for her best friend all day. Red more often than not hid away from the world when things got a little too much, Chloe knew that that's why she was looking for her, she was worried and everyone knew that Chloe was the only person that could get through to Red. If anyone else tried they'd most likely leave with a bloody nose or a black eye or both.
That's why Chloe was so confused to see Red sitting on a bench looking so calm. She was drawing in her sketchbook, calm. Nothing seemed wrong at all which spiked the question in Chloe's mind, why couldn't she find her all day if she wasn't hiding? Maybe they had just simply not crossed paths however that seemed unlikely since they had two of the same classes today that Red didn't attend. Not to mention they were back in time a couple decades, Chloe and Red only had each other right now.
Chloe approached the bench and sat down only leaving the tiniest space between the two unsure if Red wanted to be touched. Red looked up from her drawing quickly shutting it, holding it close to her body.
"Hey Red, everything okay?"
She watched her Red haired friend closely trying to find a sign that maybe she shouldn't be here, that maybe Red was hiding from her today and didn't want to see her, but nothing just calm.
"Hey Princess, everything is all good just fine."
Chloe knew she was lying, the way her hands fidget in her lap, tapping the closed book uncontrollably. The way she bit the inside of her cheek.
"Red... what's wrong?"
"Nothing, I'm fine."
"I know you're lying, you can tell me."
Red sighed, her fixed posture relaxing but her hands still fidgety. She was nervous. Chloe went to put a comforting hand on Red's leg but Red pulled away, Chloe felt hurt by her reaction, Red never had a problem with physical touch when it came to her, never, however she shrugged the hurt feeling off continuing to look at Red with what she hoped was a comforting look and not a confused one.
"There's this... girl-"
Whatever Chloe was expecting, she wasn't expecting that.
"A girl?"
She couldn't describe what she was feeling right now but she felt almost hopeful with a twinge of panic and anxiety however Chloe couldn't tell why she felt it.
"Yeah... and this girl she- she has the most beautiful smile, a laugh that makes you want to laugh along with her and her eyes... her eyes"
Red trailed off into her own little world, was that a smile? It was rare to make Red smile, this is serious. And all Chloe could feel about it was angry. Why was she angry? She couldn't possibly be jealous over her best friend finding love could she? Friends are meant to be happy for each other not angry and jealous.
"That's great Red!"
Red snapped out of her daydream looking at the blue haired girl with confusion.
"What's great?"
Chloe rolled her eyes putting her hand on Red's leg this time she didn't flinch away from her.
"You're in love Red"
"No I am not!!"
"Red it's a good thing, it's normal, special even!"
Red looked down at her lap a small smile tugging at her lips but when she looked back up at Chloe, as soon as eye contact was made her smile vanished, panic struck.
"No! It's not right, she's my friend Chloe that's not right to love your friend"
This time Chloe was the one to look down at her lap, she looked back at the memories of classes from the last few days trying to figure out who Red spoke to that wasn't her, Ella and Bridget. That's when it hit her Chemistry class. She and Red got moved apart for being too distracting making Red sit with a girl in the back of the classroom, Alice Kingsleigh was the name. Suddenly Chloe felt the urge to yell at the girl she never even spoke to, to tell her that Red was precious and special, that Red was hers. Except she wasn't, Red wasn't hers, she certainly didn't Belong to Chloe. Chloe. Chloe.
"Chloe?!"
Chloe snapped out of her haze realising the horrific sight before her. He hand was was placed on Red's face caressing it, and staring into her brown eyes. Those brown eyes, her brown eyes. No Chloe stop it. She pulled away quickly, laughing nervously.
"Sorry I don't know what came over me..."
She thought about what to say for a moment watching as red fiddled with the corner of her sketchbook.
"I'm so happy for you Red, and I think you should go for it. I mean we don't know how long we're gonna be here for, shoot your shot Rose. I believe in you"
Red smiled at her, that smile. She could look at that smile everyday, all day.
"Thank you Princess, I will and I will do it right. A proper proposal."
Chloe got up from the bench leaning down to give Red a hug and little kiss on the side of the head.
"I'm going to our dorm room, I'll see you later. Good luck"
Chloe walked away feeling a pang of sadness in her entire body. She wanted to cry, she was going to cry but she wasn't going to do it in public she needed to go back to the dorm fast.
Red sat on the bench watching as Chloe walked away. How every curve of her body framed her just right.
"The girl you were just talking about..."
Bridget approached her, smile planted on her lips as always, her pink dress shining even brighter under the sun. Red looked behind the younger version of her mother to Ella who was looking her up and down carefully and almost protectively.
"Uh sorry yeah what about her?"
Bridget sat down just smiling at her sweetly.
"It's Chloe isn't it?"
Red looked down to try and hide the blush forming on her cheeks. Suddenly a squeal came from the girl beside her then a hug, a side hug but still a hug.
"This is amazing!! Can I help with your proposal?!!"
Red laughed to herself and nodded, she had never felt this much love from her mother before, yes it was a younger version but to Red it was still her mum.
Bridget made another excited squeal running over to Ella reciting a million ideas from the top of her head of what to do for the proposal.Red looked away catching a glimpse of blue hair, her blue hair, the blue hair that soon hopefully will always be by her side to hold and to love, it disappeared around the corner but she still stared.
Red of Hearts was in love with Chloe Charming and she was going to make sure her princess knew it.
