"It started with your ancestor Marie Heart. In 1666 she was hanged for being a witch, to others it was only a theory because of the magical things she could do. And on the day she was to be hung it was those magical abilities that saved her life. She was banished to this very town. Marie fell in love with a man even had a family with him but when he died she was so heartbroken that she made a wish. A wish to never feel the pain of heartbreak ever again, however as her bitterness grew the wish turned into a curse. A curse that anyone who dare fall in love with a Hearts woman would meet their untimely Death. And that's how your father died, the curse took him from us."
Red sat across from her mother listening to the story. Bridget had told her this story many times growing up and even though Red couldn't bring herself to believe in such a curse she still vowed to never fall in love to keep her heart safe, to keep everyone safe.
Red stared at the cup of tea in front of her, the spoon stirring by itself as if it had a mind of its own. Red was still learning what her magical gifts were and how to control them but she had the basics down. Every night she would light a candle by gently blowing it, Every morning she would focus her mind on making her tea spoon stir without her touching it and pointing at the curtains to open them. Though she never admitted it she loved being a witch no matter how many people hate her for being a "freak" she loved it, she loved being taught spells by her mum. She loves her mum.
Red was only 7 years old when her father died. Everyday for 2 years she would endure her mother's heartbreak first hand and every day she reminded herself not to fall in love. And she was perfectly fine with that fate.

"Red honey hurry up the market is going to close soon! We have to get those spices!"
Finishing tying her shoelace Red runs out the door, basket in hand. Walking down the street she saw the scared looks and wary glances. Everyone in the town hated the heart family, though Red and her mum never confirmed being a witch, they knew. Everyone knew and they were frightened of them because of it. They all put up a hatred front but Red knew it was fear, she even played into it some times.
Like today; Red jumped in front of a couple to scare them, whispered gibberish nonsense whilst walking passed a group of teenagers, making a tree shed its leaves right on top another group.
"Red please stop, it's not very nice."
"But they're never nice to us?!"
"I know honey, but sinking to their level only makes you as bad as they are."
Red skipped to walk beside her mum, kissing her cheek to say hi.
"Sorry mum-"
That's when she saw her. Black curly hair with blue streaks running through it, deep brown eyes staring right back into her own not looking away as they kept walking in opposite directions. Red smiled softly earning a sweet toothy grin back. Suddenly Red tripped over a stone causing her to look away, by the time she looked back the girl was gone. Who was she?
Meanwhile whilst Red was distracted from her fall Bridget looked behind her. The girl smiled politely at the older woman before looking forwards. Oh yes Bridget knew exactly who this girl was. Chloe Charming, she looked exactly like her mother Ella. Maybe there was hope for Red after all.

That evening Bridget stood in her Alter, spell book open. She was performing a love spell. A love spell for her own daughter, she knew Red well enough to know that she needed a little push in the right direction especially when she tries so hard to stop the fate of love like she has done all her life since she was 7 years old.
