“Krystal? She is just a friend. No way you are pulling her into this”
Ava teased, "Sure, sure, Dee. That's why you two are always stuck together like glue.I'm just saying, if you're not interested, I know plenty of people who would love to take her out.”
Diana playfully rolled her eyes. "Ava, stop it. I thought we were discussing your love life, not mine.”
“So you are considering her as your love life..Dee?”
“Na absolutely not, she IS just a FRIEND”
“I guess that's clear.” Diana slightly raised her voice.“Okay okay fine” Ava chuckled. "Oh, right! Mike. Okay, so what do you think I should get him? Something romantic or something more adventurous?”
"I think something romantic would be perfect. You two are so sweet together."
Ava squealed. "Thanks, Dee! You're the best. And don't think I didn't notice how quickly you changed the subject. We'll talk about Krystal soon enough.”
Diana didn't think of this coming. Ava was the gossip queen of school. If she was already suspecting something, it was only a matter of time before the whole school was buzzing with rumours.
Diana’s assumptions were always right. The school buzzed with “the” rumours. They could never think of becoming more than friends as people were thinking about them. Diana knew Krystal was straight and she was as well. In this case they were like parallel lines which could never meet as it was impossible. Diana tried her best not to pay heed to the rumours and act casual.
But the teasing reached a peak and the rumours were spreading like a wildfire.Diana's heart raced as she scanned the crowded hallways, desperate to find Krystal before the rumours reached her. She knew how cruel their classmates could be, and the last thing she wanted was for Krystal to be bombarded with snickers and sideways glances. But fate had other plans.
As she turned a corner, she saw Krystal standing by her locker, surrounded by a group of giggling students. Ava, the gossip queen, was holding court, her voice dripping with malice. Diana's stomach twisted into knots as she watched Krystal's face fall, her eyes widening in shock and embarrassment.
“No, no, no,” Diana whispered to herself, feeling like she was stuck in a nightmare. She pushed through the crowd, her mind racing with ways to deflect the rumours, to protect Krystal from the fallout. But it was too late. The damage was done. Krystal's eyes met hers, filled with a mix of confusion and hurt. Diana knew she had to act fast, to reassure her friend that the rumours were nothing but a vicious lie.
Diana rushed to Krystal's side,
“Hey, ignore them”
“It's just Ava being her usual dramatic self.”
But Krystal's expression remained uncertain.
“What's going on, Diana? What are they talking about?”
Before she could respond, Ava chimed in, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
“Oh, Diana's just being modest. She's the star of the show, after all.”
Krystal's eyes narrowed, confusion giving way to annoyance. “What show, Ava?”
Ava smirked.
“The Diana-and-Krystal-are-in-love show, of course. It's all the rage this season.”“ENOUGH” Diana shouted her lungs out.
“ARE YOU EVEN IN YOUR RIGHT MIND AVA?”
“THINK BEFORE YOU FUCKING SAY ANYTHING.”
“YOUR WORDS CAN CONFUSE AND HURT PEOPLE. AND ALSO CAN BREAK FRIENDSHIP. NOT EVERYONE IS OKAY WITH YOUR RUMOURS AND TEASING”Ava’s smirk faltered slowly and Diana’s voice echoed in the silent hallway. On the other side Krystal pushed the crowd and made herself out from the chaos. Diana, noticing that , wanted to follow her but a fear of again giving hope to the rumour, stopped her.
With a bold and clear voice and looking straight on Ava , she said “I don't want to hear about this again. And Krystal and I are just friends, and you're twisting it into something it's not. Something it will never be. So STOP doing that”
“I hope that's CLEAR to everyone” and Diana left aggressively.
