Scarlett followed Diana's gaze, her eyes landing on the same girl.
"Hey, Dee, what's up? You look like you've seen a ghost," Scarlett said, nudging Diana with her elbow.Diana's eyes narrowed, her brow furrowed in concentration. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but there was something about this girl...
Scarlett waved her hand in front of Diana's face, trying to snap her out of her trance. "What's going on?”
“Who's that?" Diana asked Scarlett, her voice barely above a whisper, her eyes still fixed on the girl.
Scarlett's eyes widened in shock. "Dee, that's Krystal! Our old friend from junior school… Don't you remember?"
Diana's eyes widened in disbelief. "Krystal?! Oh my gosh, it's been ages! I can't believe it's her!"
"How is she here?" Diana asked Scarlett.
"She was admitted to this school this year," Scarlett replied.
"And as you know, she's pretty good at dancing, so maybe she came here to join our dance club."Diana's eyes widened with excitement. "That makes sense! I can't believe we're in the same school again after all these years!”
Diana's eyes were fixed on Krystal, her mind racing with memories of their time in junior school. She hadn't seen Krystal in years, and the thought of reconnecting with her was both exciting and nerve-wracking.
But Diana hesitated, unsure if she should approach Krystal first. What if Krystal didn't remember her? That would be too embarrassing.
"We should go talk to her," Scarlett suggested, nudging Diana's arm.
But Diana held back, her eyes fixed on Krystal's face. "I don't know, Scarlett. We weren't exactly close in junior school. What if she doesn't remember me?"
Scarlett's expression turned to understanding.
"Scar, look,"
"She's already got friends. I don't want to interrupt, that” Diana whispered.
Scarlett followed Diana's gaze and nodded in understanding.
"Yeah, maybe it's better to leave her alone.”
“It would be really embarrassing in front of them if we go and talk and she doesn't remember us at all.”
“As I said” Diana shrugged.
Saying that, a flash of memory flooded back to her mind.
[Flashback]
*In the junior school*
It was the time of dispersal. All the kids were like minions standing in a line, their cute curious eyes scanning the crowd for a familiar face, eagerly searching for their mother or father. Diana and Krystal were in the line as well, their bright eyes searching for a loved one.
In the midst of nothingness, without warning, Krystal got into a fight with her friend. Diana didn't notice at first, her attention focused on finding her own parents. But as she noticed the commotion, she quickly turned her attention to Krystal. She rushed to intervene, her small hands grasping Krystal's arm to pull her away from the dispute.
"Stop, Krystal!" she urged, her voice firm but gentle. She dragged her out of the fight.
“Hey calm down” Diana said as she made her sit.
“You don't know what she was saying” Krystal lashed out.
“OKAY. I got it. You need to calm down”
“Drink some water”
Diana could see the anger blazing in her eyes, like a fire raging out of control.
After a while , Krystal calmed down. Diana became more relaxed as her anger subsided. But that peaceful moment was short-lived. The dissipation of her anger gave way to a new wave of emotions, and Diana found Krystal tearing up.
For a few seconds Diana was in disbelief to see Krystal crying after she lashed out like a matured woman. Her mind was struggling to process the unexpected tears.
“Kris..d-don’t cry..” she stuttered. She had no idea how to soothe her or with what consolation lecture would help a crybaby like her to stop crying.
A little jerk from Scarlett made Diana hit reality. With a flick of her wrist and a sly smile , Scarlett gave a mischief look as she clicked her finger in front of Diana’s dazed face.
“What are you thinking, babygirl?”
“Shut up. Don't call me that”
“Ok. Lol. But what were you thinking that made you smile like someone proposed to you?”
“Huh? What? I wasn't smiling”
“I am not blind , dee” Scarlett said as her eyes narrowed.
“Funny!” Dee rolled her eyes with displeasure.
