Greyson
"Tell me again why we are going over to Evan's on a Wednesday night?" Shane groans.
"I cancelled two dates for this" Louis adds.
"Two?"
"One in the afternoon and one in the night" he replies, laughing.
I swat his head with my palm, "We're here because we are team building".
"Be nice to them today" Justin says from the back of the group.
We enter Evan's building and it's ridicelous how insane it is. He lives in the most expensive housing on campus, and even the lobby reeks of money. The sleek marble floors and crystal chandeliers above us seem to whisper 'peasants' as we make our way to the elevator.
The boys must think the same, because they have all gone quiet.
"I didn't know Greene had this kind of money" Shane squeaks, breaking the silence.
"The rent here is insane" Owen adds. "We're talking four-figures weekly kind of insane".
The fact that people have that kind of money used to piss me off. Why would someone need so much when others have so little? Now I realize that's just the way the world works. You either adapt or get left behind and while I live for hockey, I can't hide the fact that it's going to make me alot of money.
The elevator stops at Evan's floor and we find his door.
"Lennon lives in this building somewhere" Owen says, looking down the hall.
"You haven't even visited her yet?" Justin asks.
Owen shakes his head, "She's been busy and I've been busy".
I try not to act interested whenever Lennon is mentioned. Which is a lot around Owen. By how much he talks about her, you would think they were together. Ever since he told me to stop thinking about her it's been strained between us and we try to avoid the topic as much as we can.
I think he's being a fucking bitch, but what do I know.
Before I can let the anger simmer, Evan opens the door with a huge smile.
"You made it" he grins, which is a surprise because he usually is shy and reserved. I'd love for the team to bring out his personality more. Like I've said before he's a damn good player on the ice but there's so much more to college hockey than that. I had to learn that the hard way my freshman year.
He greets the five of us before showing us around his massive apartment. I notice a wall filled with the usual hockey memorabilia and photos but other than that there's no telling that he's playing for the best college hockey team in the nation.
A group of our teammates are on the sofa and a couple is seated outside on the patio. Even more are sitting on the floor - beers in hand, focused on the tv-screen. There's a NFL pre-season game playing. I'm not into football so I couldn't tell you who's playing but the guys seem invested.
Owen and Louis spot one of our defensemen, Tyler, and Luke, a second-line forward, outside and goes to join them. Justin steals a seat on the sofa, and Shane sits down on the floor. I linger by the kitchen island, watching them.
The conversation quickly moves to plays and results and while that is all good and well, we do that on the daily. Coach Jared wanted us to spend time together outside of the ice to bond - to get to know each other.
"Ok, we're not doing this" Shane claps his hands together and stands up.
"Doing what?" Louis asks as the four of them comes inside.
