Nil and Maxi stood outside of another town. They had continued to follow the trail of Miron. It had now led them here. Would they finally find him, or was he going to be gone once again? Their luck was not very good in this search.
"Let's see if our luck has improved at all yet." Maxi said.
They entered the town. It was late morning. There were a few people out and about. Everyone had a BMI in this town. It was to be expected. Miron was going where there were BMIs. They knew they were going to find a lot of towns like this.
The two kept as low of a profile as they could. They didn't need to draw too much attention to themselves right now. There was no telling what could be here to come after them if they were spotted.
They had run into a few more CAs along the way. Each time, they had narrowly dodged them and fled the area. This was a dangerous mission. Solstice had very clearly given new order to his CAs and didn't seem to mind as much bloodshed. It was a worrying development.
"Who do you think we should ask this time?" Maxi questioned. "Everyone seems scared of us."
"I don't know. Just try someone?" Nil shrugged.
He was also uncomfortable with how everyone feared them. Something had to have happened here. That was the only reason he could think no one would want to talk to them.
Though, he noticed a lot of looks toward his tail. Was it... did they witness Miron do something? Their tails were the same color, after all. Or else these people hadn't expected to see aliens in their town. It was hard to tell without actually asking someone.
Maxi took the initiative and approached someone. "Excuse me-"
"Get away from me!" The person screamed at him and ran away.
"Well... that didn't go as planned." Maxi commented.
"I don't think they like us being here." Nil said. "Something happened."
"Miron?"
"Probably."
"What do we do if no one is going to be willing to talk to us though?" Maxi crossed his arms.
"Maybe we'll find someone eventually. Let's keep moving."
Nil didn't wait for an answer and started walking. Maxi huffed and followed behind him. They wandered around the town, getting the same looks from everyone that they saw. Maxi tried a few more times to ask someone anything, but they all ran off and hid when he approached.
"Just what the hell happened? We're the Special Force. They should be glad to see us." Maxi grumbled.
"I don't know what to say..." Nil sighed. "This is the worst town we've seen so far. And yet, no real signs of distress anywhere."
They walked on. Maybe they could figure this out on their own? That was all they could hope at this point. Unless they could find someone willing to hear them out, they were going to have to do a lot of detective work. Neither wanted to have to waste that much time. They didn't need Miron getting even more distance on them.
"Excuse me." Maxi had found another person to try and talk to. A girl looking to be in her teens. She took a few hesitant steps back as Maxi approached her.
"L-leave me alone." She pleaded.
"I just have a question. I'm not going to hurt you." Maxi said. "What happened here? Why are you so scared of us? We're part of the Resistance. You don't need to be afraid of us, I promise."
"I... they'll hurt us if we talk to the Resistance..." The girl whispered. "Please leave me alone."
"Who will hurt you?"
