Chapter 18: Down With The Fallen

ALIVA, Jae, Nico, and Tsang stood before the deactivated Maxi. ALIVA was typing away on a computer setup.

"The repairs should be complete now. Shall I reactivate him?" ALIVA asked.

"If everything seems good, go for it." Tsang nodded to it.

ALIVA nodded back and pressed a few more buttons. It turned to then face Maxi like the rest were.

Maxi's eyes flashed a few times before they stayed glowing their normal red. Silence hung heavy in the air as they waited. After a few agonizing minutes, Maxi made a movement. He lifted his left arm and held it in his vision, studying it.

"I'm back?" He spoke.

"Yeah. Everything is fixed." Jae replied.

"Can I be unplugged from all this stuff then?" Maxi looked around at all the wires that were attached to his body.

"If everything seems alright on your end, then we can discharge you." Tsang said.

Maxi nodded. "All systems are good."

ALIVA stepped forward and started to detach all the wires from Maxi's body. It was a painfully slow process. They had to hook him up to a lot of things for the amount of damage they needed to repair. Putting them on had been hard enough.

"Finally." Maxi said as ALIVA finished. "Good to be back."

He stepped down off the platform he had been on. Jae took a few steps toward him and then hugged him tightly. Maxi let out a small chuckle and patted her on the back.

"Miss me that much?"

"You almost died." Jae shot back, her voice cracking.

"I'm not going down that easily. Don't you worry." Maxi patted her on the back one more time.

"It's been too quiet without you around." Nico commented.

"Have we managed to do much while I've been out of commission?" Maxi questioned.

Everyone looked to Tsang for the answer.

"Well, not really." Tsang replied. "We've found more notes and apparently one of Solstice's commanders is the one responsible for sending them to us? We're all very confused. Oh, uh... Herux was reprinted and is back in the game. It's gotten worse since you shut down."

"Man, I missed a lot." Maxi crossed his arms as Jae finally let go of him. "What about Miron?"

"He's been MIA ever since the attack. We haven't seen him or gotten any info on his current location since you and Nil met him." ALIVA replied.

"How is Nil holding up?"

"He's okay. He's just been discharged from his own bedrest not too long ago." Nico answered as everyone looked his way. "He feels guilty about you getting hurt. Blames himself for not listening to you in the first place."

"Idiot."

"You should go talk to him when you get the chance." Jae said. "If he hears from you how you feel about it, maybe he'll change his mind."

Maxi nodded. "Very well."

"I'll leave you all to do as you please." Tsang spoke. "I'm still waiting for more updates from the HQ."

"Hopefully we get something to finally make sense soon." ALIVA nodded along. "See you guys later."

They all said their farewells as Tsang and ALIVA left the room. The three friends looked at each other in silence. There was more they all wanted to say, but no words to say it with.
