No one's pov:
"Are you serious?" England practically yelled out, his voice echoing the halls that led into the meeting room. He was appalled by what his fellow countryman had explained, glaring at the demands written on paper. If such demands were met, then someone would end up dead.
"Ydw." Wales said firmly, a hand set firmly against the table. "This is what I and my people would want."
"Do you realise what would happen to-"
"Britain?" He interrupted. "I do. He'd end up dead."England blinked twice at the sudden cold tone hissing from the other's voice. Such a sound had never once been used in his presence from Wales. It was simply unfathomable. He considered the other to be constantly calm, level-headed, and the one who brought reason to the small circle of 4. Where could've such a claim emerged from?!
"You can't be serious... What about Scotland? N. Ireland? Do you think they're going to be happy about you wanting to leave?!"
A slight sparkle came from Wales' eye at the thought but evaporated as he glared back up at England.
"What about us?"
"What about us?!" Wales repeated.
England stepped back, his mouth agape.
"Our history? You know! The fact that we've been together since the start of this."
"The fact you annexed my country and brought it to shit with yours!"The room fell to silence. The only noise was the repeat of those words in England's head. He could've sworn his heart stopped to think over the harsh words.
"You're staying." Was all he could mutter.
Wales shrugged it off, turning to the door.
"I have someone who'll back me anyway." He waved his hand off dismissively at England's claim.
"Britain won't be happy about this," England tried to plead.
The door opened and thudded shut, leaving the other alone in awe.If Wales left the UK, surely the others would, too. Essentially, it'd kill Britain. Did Wales know this? Of course he did. He witnessed the same fate to USSR two decades earlier. Why wouldn't he know?
On his way home, alone in human form on the train, he sat at the very end; the area where hardly anyone else was. He kept himself by the corner, staring at the tunnel walls through the windows as they sped by. The gentle glow of his phone illuminated his face as he dialled a number he saved in his mind. If anyone else found it saved in the phone, questions would be raised. It hummed in his ear while he awaited a response. He got an answer soon enough. No greeting needed to be exchanged.
"He said no. I'm making a public announcement tomorrow. Back me up."
That's all Wales needed to say. No further discussion between him and his long-time friend had to be said.
...
"If that's what he wants..." Britain spoke timidly, his teacup trembling in his hand. As he took the first sip, it didn't singe his tongue like it used to (before he put on his second marriage ring). The fuzzy thought of a potential afterlife wasn't soothing in the slightest, but someone might have been waiting for him there.
England huffed, slamming his hand against the table.
"No! You can't just side with this! This is treachery!"
"And what? We resist and make it more difficult than it needs to be?" Britain hummed as a 100 year old memory came about. "No. That's happened already. Not again."
England rolled his eyes at such a foolish idea. He didn't want to let go. Not now. Not ever....
The rest of the day went by with mild intrigue. The whole world knew by the end of the day. Everyone had a curious eye on what was unfolding in one of the most well-known kingdoms of the world. To even think... a potential civil war if neither side could agree on something?! Well, that was the main thought coming from people at the moment. No one would ever be so drastic. Right?
What surprised everyone even more was China's quick response, backing up the independence of Wales in a heartbeat. Naturally, most suspected he wanted something from him. But they didn't know. They didn't need to know.
