POV: Priscilla
I woke up to the sound of birds chirping outside my window, a welcome change from the constant rain that had dominated the last few weeks. The sun streamed through the curtains, casting a warm glow on my room. Today felt different—lighter, brighter. I stretched my arms above my head and took a deep breath, trying to soak in the positivity that seemed to be in the air.
My phone buzzed on the nightstand, pulling me out of my thoughts. A message from Edith, one of my close friends and a fellow graduate, popped up on the screen.
“Morning, Pris! Have you checked your email yet? I just sent you something you’ll want to see. :)”
My heart skipped a beat. I had been applying for freelance consulting projects and networking like crazy, hoping something would come through, but the wait had been excruciating. I quickly reached for my laptop, booting it up with fingers that trembled slightly with anticipation.
My inbox loaded slowly, each second feeling like an eternity. But there it was, a new email from Edith with the subject line: “Potential Project - Exciting Opportunity!” I clicked on it, my eyes scanning the contents eagerly.
"Hey Pris,
I was at a tech event last week and met someone who’s looking for a freelance business consultant. Their current project is small, but they want to work with someone who can help streamline their operations and grow their business. I thought of you immediately. I’ve attached the project brief and their contact details. It could be a good start to get your name out there.
Good luck, and I hope this is the break you’ve been waiting for!
Love, Edith"
My heart swelled with gratitude. I opened the attachment and read through the project brief - a small business needed consulting services to optimize their operations, improve customer engagement, and develop a growth strategy. It wasn’t a massive project, but it was something, and the possibility of ongoing work was a beacon of hope.
I sat back in my chair, my mind racing with ideas. The company, a boutique bakery specializing in artisan cakes and pastries, had a quaint charm that I instantly connected with. I could already picture the strategies I could implement to enhance their brand presence and drive business growth.
I quickly composed a reply to Edith, thanking her profusely for thinking of me, and then drafted a professional yet enthusiastic email to the contact provided. I attached my portfolio, carefully selected to showcase my best work in business consulting, and hit send, my heart racing with both nerves and excitement.
The morning sun seemed to shine even brighter as I closed my laptop, feeling a renewed sense of purpose. This project might be small, but it was exactly what I needed to reignite the spark within me.
Later that afternoon, I found myself seated at my favorite café, waiting for John. The café was bustling with activity, the hum of conversation and the clatter of cups creating a lively atmosphere. I had chosen a table by the window, where I could watch the world go by and enjoy the warmth of the sunlight filtering through the glass.
John arrived a few minutes later, looking sharp in a crisp white shirt and dark trousers. His usual easygoing smile spread across his face as he spotted me. “Hey, Priscilla! You look radiant today,” he said as he took a seat across from me.
