"So, where do we go about finding this magic fruit?"The two half-bloods got up at the crack of dawn that day to begin their hunt for the missing apple. Both of them were definitely not morning people, and Thalia was given the difficult task of dragging Percy and herself out of bed. The Parisian streets were mostly empty, except for a few vendors setting up for the day and a couple of joggers. The sun still sat comfortably in the East, and took its time rising above the horizon. They slowly walked across the sidewalk, watching the lampposts flicker on one by one. It was chilly out, and Thalia knew she wouldn't be surprised if one of the wind gods caused the frigid weather out of spite. The picturesque view almost made up for the freezing temperature. They took pictures of some of the notable and unique buildings (as requested by Annabeth) with a Polaroid camera as they passed by.
Percy dug through his pocket and produced a sparkly pink note that made Thalia's head hurt. They read through the list and tried to figure out their game plan.
Thalia pulled her jacket closer to her as another particularly cold gust of wind blew past.
"Label Arrest store? Who or what the heck is a Label Arrest?"
"That says Gabriel Agreste, Kelp Head. Adrien's father?" Thalia said, squinting at the parchment.
"You know it wouldn't have hurt to at least write the list in Greek," Percy said, rubbing his strained eyes. "Or used less sparkly paper."
"You think I had a say in it?" Thalia grumbled.
Their feet clacking against the cobblestone streets were the only sound breaking the serene silence of the early morning. Percy yawned, and stretched his arms. He observed how the water of the Seine River rippled slowly. It made him feel sleepier than he already was.
"It's really quiet here," He mumbled. "Way too quiet honestly."
"Shhh, enjoy it while it lasts," Thalia said, digging her hands in her pockets. "I have a feeling it won't stay quiet for much longer."
On cue, a loud squawk echoed from behind them. They spun around to see that the source of the sound was a lone pigeon. The gleam of the morning sun reflected off of its feathers. It hopped around in a circle and flapped its wings restlessly.
"Okay...it's just a pigeon, we're fine." Percy stated, trying to calm his nerves.
The bird stared back at them with its beady yellow eyes. It flew closer, ever so slightly. It hopped over next to Thalia's feet and looked up at her curiously. It cocked its head from side-to-side, before cooing and bowing its head reverently.
"Is it...bowing?" Percy asked incredulously.
"He says his name is Perry." Thalia mumbled.
"What?" Percy looked at her like she was insane. The pigeon cooed again.
"Percy, the bird is calling me princess. And is speaking in a freaking French accent. Can you hear him talking too?"
Percy paused momentarily and questioned his friend's sanity.
"Ohhhh..." Percy scratched the back of his head. "So you know how I can like...talk to fish and horses right? Because of my dad's domain?"
Thalia nodded slowly in understanding. "You think it's the same for me? But with, uh, birds?"
"Probably," Percy said, crouching down to the pigeon's level. He reached a hand out to pet it, but yanked his hand away when the bird pecked his fingers. Thalia snickered.
"He says he doesn't like that."
"Yeah, I figured," Percy said, rolling his eyes.
"He wants you to apologize."
