Maddie turned to Reina as soon as the two left.

"So…" she started, "what are we going to talk about?"

Reina raised a finger, her gaze still fixed at the paper. Maddie could not help but feel concerned.

"Rei–"

"Are they far?" the woman interrupted.

Crow flew in through the window. "They just went into the Dark Forest."

'How did I not notice that?' Maddie thought.

"Good." For the first time in the past few minutes, Reina finally took her eyes off of the drawing. "I've seen this kind of spell casting before."

"You have?!" Maddie jumped from her seat. "Where?"

"Did you pay attention to what that Charming girl had said a moment ago?" Reina asked, jabbing her thumb towards the door.

Maddie shrugged as she sat back down. "Depends. Was it the one about spell casting or the one about her doing something tomorrow?"

Reina waved the paper. "Spell casting."

Madeline was confused. "What about it?"

The woman sighed as she handed her the paper.

"Reina, don't tell me…" Crow spoke.

"She needs some inspiration if she were to pursue this craft."

The talking Raven only nodded, puzzling the tri-colored-haired girl even more.

"Reina…?" the teen tried to ask, but she could not find her words.

The woman sat next to her. "I knew someone who casts spells the same way that you just did. And she was a human."

The tri-colored-haired girl's eyes went wide in shock. "I thought there was no record of a human ever performing magic?"

"You're right," Reina nodded. "It was supposed to look like it was never recorded. The empress ordered every single article about her to be burned."

The teen raised an eyebrow. "Why? If she ever did anything against whatever law, wouldn't they just be confiscated and sealed off?"

Reina pursed her lips. "Because… She was a hero. A type that was never ever after seen in the books."

Maddie, puzzled to the core, looked at Crow for some kind of explanation.

"She showed Reina that being evil is not a destiny, nor a duty," the talking bird elaborated. "She saved her when Reina was cursed, even."

"How–"

Her question was interrupted by Reina standing up. "Crow, can you watch over Raven? Maddie, come downstairs with me."

With that, the woman left the room. Maddie took a moment to look at Crow, but he just nodded for her to follow.

The moment she had reached the living room, she saw the woman taking out a jewelry box from a drawer beside the fireplace.

Reina made her way towards the sofa, and set the box down next to her when she sat.

Maddie slowly walked towards her. "Um… Reina?"

"Come here," the woman instructed as she opened the box.

The teen sat at the other side, looking at the contents of the box.

'They're just jewelry,' she thought. She then looked at the woman in confusion.

Reina pulled out a silver necklace by its chain. "This is a reminder of the time when I was cursed."
