WAITING for the past hours, watching as the sun rose up again, meaning the start of a new day.

She wasn't able to sleep, her mind running wild with thoughts of what could've happened inside that Maze.

No clue if they were still alive. They say it's impossible but a part of her  mind held onto hope that there's a chance they'll make it out.

Eleanor felt the hands of Chuck tugging on her shirt as they stranded in front of the Maze doors waiting for them to open, he's been up all night too.

In such a short amount of time the boy had grown to like Thomas a lot. Like a brother, she would say. Chuck speaks highly of Thomas, though he wasn't shy of adding a few complaints.

"Guys, get up!" Chuck yelled as the Maze doors began opening up slowly, the sound loud and grinding.

Eleanor played nervously with her necklace, her heart sinking  as she didn't see any of the three boys on the other side. A hand rested on her shoulder offering some comfort. She could feel the bandaged hand– It was Mikael.

"I told you, Chuck. They are not coming back." Newt said softly, looking at the boy that looked so upset that they didn't return and had to face reality now. The Gladers turned around slowly walking away, their hope fading.

Eleanor watched Chuck, her frown deepening as she saw the disappointment in his eyes.

Zart, who had been walking away suddenly froze when he turned around for a second, his expression shifting as he stared into the Maze.

"No way." Zart whispered, drawing everyone's attention. Eleanor turned, her heart leaping at what she saw.

Right in front of her was Minho, Thomas, and Alby alive.

"Yeah! Yes!" Chuck exclaimed, his face lighting up as he saw them.

The two boys were panting as they carried Alby out of the Maze. Eleanor couldn't believe it–they were alive.

"I got him, I got him" One of the Med-Jacks spoke up, as they gently laid Alby down in the grass.

"Watch out, easy." someone said.

"How did you guys make it out?" The Gladers crowded Alby and the two boys that made it out of the Maze.

"Guys, make some space for Eleanor," Mikael spoke, as some of the Gladers moved out of the way letting her approach Alby and check on him.

He was unconscious, sweat glistening on his forehead, dark veins spread out from the wound. Every so often his body would jolt.

"You saw a Griever?"  Chuck asked, and the Gladers glanced at Thomas waiting for a response.

"Yeah, I saw one." Thomas replied.

"He didn't just see it. He killed it" Minho added, making everyone go silent.

Kill a Griever? One thing is surviving the Maze and another is killing a Griever and he did both?

"Keepers, we are having a meeting. Take Alby to the Med-Jack too." Gally spoke up.

As the Gladers began to disperse,
the Keepers heading to a meeting, others back to their duties, and Jeff taking Alby to the Med-Jack Hut.

Eleanor gets up and wraps her hands tightly around the first person she saw, now that she had the opportunity.

Thomas.

He didn't move for a second, surprised by the gesture, but then he wrapped his arms around her too.

"You are an idiot, you know that, right?" she chuckles, Eleanor was still in disbelief on how they made it alive.

"Whatever you say Blondie." he responded looking down to take a glance at her. She wiped some dirt off his face and he made a face as she did so.

"I'm sorry to interrupt the moment, lovebirds. But Thomas is joining us in the meeting." Minho said, cutting in.

"He's not a Keeper." Eleanor protested ignoring a certain word Minho said and unwrapping her arms from Thomas' torso and Minho just shrugs in response and Thomas follows him.

"Ok, but you both have to go to the Med-Jack Hut after this stupid meeting!" she called after them, worried. Getting checked out was more important than any meeting.

Minho turned around giving her a thumbs up and a small smile before disappearing into the Hut.

Eleanor made her way to the Med-Jack Hut, Jeff was there in a room watching over an unconscious Alby.

"Do you think he'll be okay?" Eleanor asked, hoping to hear a yes from him as she approached him.

"As long as he doesnt go crazy." Jeff replied.

"We have to try something."

"Right now we have to wish for the best. Theres nothing else we could do." Jeff's words stung, hitting her hard. That felt personal.

"I'll keep watch of him, if he wakes up trust me you will be the first one to know." Jeff reassured her. Eleanor nodded, forcing a small smile, though her heart ached with the weight of everything they couldn't control.
