𝟎𝟖- 𝐓𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧?

CHAPTER EIGHT

THROWING knives aiming for the target that was hanging from the tree trunk.

The knife landed in the wood getting stuck, nowhere near the bullseye and she groaned in frustration.

"You might have to teach me." a voice said from behind her, making her jump.

"Jeez, don't ever scare me when I have a knife in my hand." Eleanor turned,  rolling her eyes and a small smile forming when she saw Thomas there.

He tilted his head playfully "What are you doing here, Blondie?" he asked, looking at her grab the knife again that was stuck in the trunk.

"Practicing my knife-throwing skills, you know. Just in case." She glanced at him, her tone casual.

"And you? What are you doing here?" she asked

"I'm going to the Maze.. with Minho and I'm not sure who else"

"Ah, the Maze. Be careful then..."

"Do- Do you want to go?" Thomas hesitated but still asked

"Oh no, I'm not going in there." She pressed her lips together and he nodded his head

There was a silence between them before they heard the rustling of leaves, meaning someone was coming. Minho appeared, followed by Frypan, Winston, and Zart.

"Will this be enough?" Minho asked Thomas, of course, it was Thomas' plan.

"Okay... Let's go." Thomas gave a quick nod.

Frypan turned to Eleanor "You going too, El?" She shakes her head in response

"Why not? I've seen you chasing Minho around the Glade. You have the stamina" Frypan playfully bumps his shoulders into hers.

"Gally will kill me if he knows I went in there, with all of you." She replied, letting out a soft chuckle

"What, need your parents' permission?" Minho sarcastically asked

"I'll just stay here, I have to check on the girl soon anyways," Eleanor answered and Thomas nodded.

"Guys, let's go." Thomas interrupted

She watched them as they left, running towards the Maze.

Eleanor was in the Kitchen area with Frypan and Mikael. They had seen Gally storming off pissed, so they asked Frypan and it turned into a gossip session.

Mikael gasps dramatically "He's a Runner?"

"Mhm," Frypan replied as he mixed the food in the pot.

"Eleanor! We have a problem-" Jeff and Clint interrupted as they rushed towards them.

"What? What's wrong?" She quickly asked standing up and getting closer to them.

"The girl is awake," Jeff said quickly.

"But she disappeared after she kicked Jeff in his no-no area," Clint added a smirk playing on his lips. Eleanor had to put her hand over her mouth to cover the smile that formed on her face.

"There she is.." Mikael pointed to the commotion where he heard some of the Gladers yelling as some rocks were being thrown at them.

"Oh my–" Eleanor struggled trying not to laugh as she followed the group there, and Jeff and Clint ran off to get Thomas and Minho.

The pale girl kept throwing stuff and Eleanor was watching from afar her eyes filled with surprise.

"Tell her to stop! You girls are so aggressive." Mikael shouted from afar as he felt more things getting thrown close to him and ducked behind Newt.

Minho and Thomas approached, now looking at this unusual situation.

"Girls are awesome," Chuck said with a grin, laughing as he pointed in the girl's direction

"I know right." Eleanor laughed with him, she would've gone up and talked to the girl but this was too good to watch.

"Leave me alone!" The girl yelled, continuing to throw more stuff and the Gladers kept shouting.

"Hey! Throw one more of those- ow!" Gally yelled and a small rock hit him square in the head.

"Go away!"

"I don't think she likes us very much," Newt stated the obvious.

"What do you want from me!"

"We just wanna talk" Thomas called out, stepping forward and Eleanor started to approach the group.

"I'm warning you!" She shouted and threw more rocks, one almost hitting Thomas as he ducked down.

"Take cover ya'll!" someone yelled.

"She's gonna kill me," Mikael yelled as he got hit with another rock.

"Hey, it's Thomas!" he yelled and everything went to silence and the girl peaked her head, her eyes narrowing in suspicion.

"I'm gonna come up, okay?" Thomas said cautiously. When the girl stopped throwing things, he began climbing up

"Just me." he added. Eleanor felt her jaw clench for a second at the remark.

"What's going on up there? Is she coming down?"

"Um...Hey, listen, you guys just give us a second, okay?" Thomas responded and Eleanor just crossed her arms and walked away.

Mikael followed her and tapped her shoulder and she turned around frustrated

"What?" She asked

"What the hell was that about? Did I just see you get jealous for the first time?" Mikael teased.

"What? What the hell is wrong with you, why would I be jealous?" She shot back, glaring at him

"I'm just saying. There's tension between you and Thomas, you got jealous. I could see it on your face."

"No- what the hell? Tension, what tension?"

"Sexual tension." When she heard those words coming from his mouth her jaw dropped and she kept walking and he kept following her.

"There's no-" He cut her before she could finish.

"You can deny it all you want, but I know what I saw."

"Well, you are wrong.  I'm just pissed, there's a girl after I have been waiting for years and he wouldn't let me go with him to talk to her! It's unbelievable." she scoffed.

"You sound jealous...Don't hit me! I take it back, I'm so sorry I will just lie to you, you don't sound jealous at all." he raised his hands in mock surrender

"Yeah, I barely know him..." Eleanor rolled her eyes.

"Uh-huh. But seriously, you know you can talk about it." he changed his tone to soft

Eleanor hesitated, her expression softening slightly "I just feel like I know him, from somewhere. It feels like I have known him my whole life but I don't. It's weird–"

"I think he also recognizes you somehow."

"But from where?" she asked with a scoff and raised her eyebrows as she glanced towards where Thomas was still with the girl.

"Maybe that's why there's so much tension between you two!"

"Stop with that, there's no tension." Eleanor assured.
