I woke up with my thoughts racing. Prom was so stressful for no reason. We had dinner reservations at some sushi place. This year I was wearing a black, body-con dress with gold heels and gold nails. It was my last high school dance ever, so I had to make the most of it. I had a hair appointment to touch up my blonde highlights and to get my hair professionally curled. It was a quick day. I ranted to my hairdresser and then went over to Lydia's. We danced around with some margaritas we made and got ready.
"Last dance ever!" She said.
"What a relief!" I laughed.I did a lot of makeup and we danced to Sexy Red to hype ourselves up. My gold heels and nails clashed so well with the dress. Lydia was wearing a red dress with white heels. We had to go in five minutes so I blotted some red lipstick on. I also chugged the last of the margaritas. We walked down the stairs where everyone else was waiting. We wandered over to the other girls.
"Let's get some pictures going!"
We went into the front yard and took a million pictures. These better be post-worthy. We got in the car and headed to the school. They had colored lights going off everywhere with loud music on. We jumped and danced around for a while. I talked to some of my friends and reminisced about previous high school experiences.
A few teachers walked to the front of the room.
"It is time to announce this year's king and queen," Mrs. Jenning said.
I had no expectations, I didn't have anyone in mind. Connor and I were on the ballot but I didn't think it would be us.
"First the king. Drumroll please," she announced.
We all waited.
"Connor Anderson!" She yelled over the mic.
"Oh my god." I hugged him before he ran up there.
"I bet you can guess the Queen," she laughed.
"Is she talking about me?" I thought.
"Alyssa Payne!" I looked shocked and ran up there to meet my king. They crowned me. I looked at the rest of the school staring at me.
"Anything you guys would like to say?" She asked while handing me the mic.
I grabbed it."I am so grateful for all of the experiences that I have had here. The amazing people I am surrounded by every day. The opportunities I have had with my learning. I can't wait to take them great places," I said handing the mic to Connor.
I smiled as Connor started his speech. "I want to thank my coaches for getting me where I am, all my boys on the team, and the amazing students and staff at this school. Go Bama!" He yelled.
Everyone clapped and cheered. This felt so surreal. We had more pictures taken. He kissed me and we had our dance together. This was the best high school experience I could ever ask for. We headed out of prom and to the after-party finally.
The theme was rodeo. Grant was hosting so we rushed home to change. I slipped on a jean skirt and a little white top with my cowgirl boots. Connor wore only overalls and some boots. That made me fall in love all over again. You could see his biceps from a mile away. We went to the party just to make an appearance but I didn't want to stay long. I had some drinks and talked to friends but I didn't feel great. We headed home about two hours later.
"I can't wait to marry you," I said.
"Oops, I said that out loud," I laughed.
"It's okay you're drunk."
"No, I'm just tipsayyyy."
"Let's get you to bed," he said.I sat on the bed and he took my boots off. He also took my top off and threw over one of his t-shirts. I slipped out of my skirt. He changed into some flannel pants and we got in bed.
"Good night my king," I said.
"Goodnight Queen Lyssa," he laughed.I couldn't believe high school was almost over.
