CHAPTER FIFTEEN

"Lydia, I'm sorry, okay? Look, I didn't mean that you're trying to kill people, okay? I just... I just meant that, maybe... maybe you're somehow involved in getting people to kill themselves, you know?" Stiles sighs a bit, trying to find the right words.

"Which, now that I say that out loud, it just sounds really terrible, so I'm just going to stop talking..."

Lydia suddenly stops and begins looking around, making Stiles and Charlotte stop too "Do you guys hear that?"

"Hear what?" Charlotte asks, stepping closer to the strawberry blond. Lydia has a distant look on her face as she carefully and painfully slowly walked forward, her shoes clicking along the pavement, stopping just short of a grate, the sound of subtle running water coming from it as she gets down on her knees to hear better.

"Lydia? What do you hear?

"A baby crying" Lydia mumbles distantly, leaning her head even closer to the grate. "I hear.. I hear water running"

"Oh my god.. She's drowning the baby" Lydias voice is distraught, Stiles and Charlotte watching, shooting each other concerned glances. Lydia stands suddenly, eyes glazed over with tears. "Someones drowning!" She cries out.

Charlotte grabs Stiles arm, making him spin to look at her "Boyd."

They all make a break for it, running up the stairs to Boyds room and kicking the door open, finding him underwater in the tub, a safe on his chest.

Stiles sticks his hand in the water, feeling around for the drain "He blocked it – he blocked the drain with something I can't get to it." The tension in the room is palpable as the trio watch in horror, Charlotte trying to lift the safe off his chest.

"Help me." The girl strains, her shirt already soaked with water but it's no use, the safe clearly has something in it they can't get to, and that no one with normal strength can lift. After a moment Lydia lets go the safe. "Is he dead? How long can a werewolf stay underwater?"

"You think I know that?" Stiles grunts, Lydia going back to try and help them. After what seems like hours, they finally give up. "There has to be something we're missing." Charlotte voices, standing up and running a hand through her hair.

As if on cue, Stiles stumbles back into the radiator built into the wall, letting out a sharp wince and does a double take. "Wait a sec, The heater – Ethan came out of it when Char used heat." He gestures to the girl next to him, the gears in his head turning. "What?" Lydia mumbles

"It's heat, heat, fire." Stiles explains further "Heat does it alright? we need something–"

"Hes underwater!" Lydia yells, cutting him off. "Yeah I'm aware of that!" He yells back, racking his brain on what to do. "Im out on this one, not only can I not control it but they go out the second they hit water." Charlotte rambles, Stiles clearly crossing her off his mental list

"Wait wait." Lydia interjects, the other two turning to look at her. "The bus, they'll have emergency road flares."

"They've got their own oxidizers, they can burn underwater."

"Are you serious?" Stiles pauses.

"Yes! Go!" Lydia yells, making Charlie and Stiles run out of the motel room and down the stairs to the bus, the high tension situation making everything move faster.

The two make it to the bus, Stiles pulling the door open as they scramble inside. "They have to be here somewhere." Charlotte mumbles, Charlie checking the rest of the bus as Stiles searches the front of it. "Here!" Stiles yells out, grabbing all of them and running back to the room, Charlotte right behind him. "God this better work."
