CHAPTER FOURTEEN
Charlotte and her friends take step off the bus cautiously, the evening air biting at the tip of her nose, her body still sluggish with sleep. The group of teens look at the hotel with varying, but uncertain looks. "I've seen worse." Scott chimes, trying to uplift the mood.
"Where have you seen worse." Stiles snips, shooting Scott a glance.
"Listen up" Coach says, catching everyones attention. "The meets been pushed till tomorrow. This is the closest motel with the most vacancies and the least amount of good judgment when it comes to accepting a bunch of degenerates like yourselves. You'll be pairing up, so choose wisely."
The group begins collecting keys and walking off, Charlie awkwardly standing alone, not sure who to room with. "And I'll have no sexual perversions perpetrated by you little deviants!" Coach starts yelling. "Keep your dirty little hands to your dirty little selves!"
Charlotte sighs gently, Lydia unmoving next to her. "Lydia?" Allison questions, turning around to see what the holdup is. "I don't like this place." Lydia mumbles, her eyes looking on in fear. "I don't think the people who own this place like this place." Allison laughs. "Its just for one night, you coming or not? Charlie?" Allison finishes, averting her gaze to the girl stood beside Lydia.
"Yeah, sorry." Charlotte nods, starting to catch up to Allison, smiling to herself at the offer. Lydia continues to stand in her spot next to the bus, Allison and Charlotte waiting eagerly for her to join them. "A lot can happen in one night." Lydia mumbles again, her voice quivering, sending shivers down Charlie's spine.
After getting adjusted to her room, Charlotte grabs a jacket from her backpack and heads out, wanting to scope the place out.
Its surprisingly cold for a night in a desert, Charlie clutching her arms against her sweatshirt as she walks around, taking a turn and running right into Boyd, startling her. "Sorry Boyd I didn't mean to..." The girl cuts off her own sentence when she properly looks at him.
Boyds eyes are.. distant, far off, and it gives her goosebumps. "You okay?" Charlie asks, her voice hesitant. Boyd doesn't say anything back however, doesn't even look at the girl as he moves around her and walks off the other way, making Charlotte even more uneasy.
Curious, she walks the way he came, running into another familiar face. "Jesus you scared me!" Stiles jumps, clutching his chest. The girl laughs and shakes her head, averting her gaze to the smashed vending machine. "The hell happened here?" The girl questions, giving Stiles a confused look.
"Beats me." The boy shrugs, looking off in the direction she came from. Charlie narrows her eyes at him in confusion. "Are you okay?"
Stiles nods his head quickly, meeting her eyes again. "Yeah, why?" He questions, his mind still clearly elsewhere. "Because everyones acting a bit.. off."
Stiles eyes furrow in confusion, his gaze finally properly focusing on her. "What do you mean?" He asks, his voice laced with suspicion. "Boyd? He was being weird, Lydia earlier... and now you." Charlotte sighs, leaning up against the wall next to Stiles.
"Lydia was acting weird?" Stiles asks again, his eyes darting around in thought. Charlotte gently nods. " Yeah.. back at the bus she looked scared to get too close to the motel." Charlie adds, it clearly bugging her too. "And I've learned from you and Scott" She gestures "That Lydia acting weird is never good."
Stiles lips pursed in thought, leaning his shoulder against the wall so he was facing the girl. "Are you okay?" Stiles asked, crossing his arms over his chest.
