Sage

We made it back just a couple of hours before dawn. I got down from Luna's big body and gave her to the staff who would make sure she would get pampered before the big day. As soon as we got back, a piece of paper floated to me. Mother had sent word that war would commence during nightfall of the day that was going to begin. We anticipated this, we had been training for this. But that didn't mean I couldn't be frightened. I was scared for my new family. I sent word to our allies that the war was beginning that night. I felt numb. All this time, we had been preparing for it, but I always thought that I would be able to stop it. To stop my parents without having to resort to war. I was even prepared to kill them if I had to.

Without knowing, my legs took me to Nina's chambers. I knocked on her door and not two seconds later, she opened her golden entrance.

She rubbed her eyes against the tiredness and looked at me expectantly, "Is everything okay?"

"War is starting at nightfall."

She shifted from one foot to the other and looked at the ground, "So I heard. Are you... how are you coping?"

It was my turn to look at the ground, "I could be better. But it has to be done. No matter who they are, it is my duty to punish them for all that they have done. It's my destiny. I've always known that I would be the one to stop them from doing any more harm. Only my original plan was less bloody and involved more running than attacking."

We both looked at each other simultaneously and chuckled. Then, silence crashed hard upon us. Tears sprung in Nina's eyes and fueled the burning behind my eyes. With a quivering voice, I added, "One last night to crash in your room?"

She chuckled through her tears, "Just how it started."

I smiled, "And how it is going to end."

Her chambers reflected the pure and beautiful soul of my sister. Sky blues painted the walls and the decorations ranged from gold to dark blue. We lay on her bed and we talked. We talked about our childhood. Our sneakouts in the forest behind our parents' mansion. The first time Nina saw a bird and started thinking about ways to escape our parents' prison. The time when we were eight and found the pond and the waterfalls pouring into it and how much we tanned until we started screaming from how hot our bodies were but we stayed "in the name of becoming models". We laughed and laughed about these cherished memories before our parents found out I had psychic abilities at fourteen and locked us up almost every night in the punishment room.

A soft knock made us flinch and look at the golden doors while getting up to our feet. She tensed, her eyebrows dipping and her mouth forming a straight line. I sensed the person outside the room. I was confused. "Aren't you guys on good terms?" I asked.

Still fixating the door, Nina replied, "Something bigger happened and I bet he came to apologize."

"Do you want me to open the door?" My confusion was only growing. I have been sitting with my sister for the past thirty minutes and she didn't bother telling me she got into a huge fight with her mate. "Why didn't you tell me?"

That got her attention back to me.

"You didn't need the extra stress. You have a lot on your plate already. Besides," she chuckled, but it seemed void of amusement, "We always get back together, you know that."

I sighed and shook my head. That was not the point. "You need to tell me more about what is going on in your life, Nina."

"You know, she's right."

We turned our attention to the door which was still locked. Thomas could hear us. He used his supernatural hearing to spy on us. Jerk.

"Go away, Thomas." Nina's voice sounded pained and I could feel Thomas going rigid through the doors.
