Sage

Chaos rained. One moment we were talking, the next, soldiers from both sides started running or screaming at their animals to start running. I urged Luna onward and she howled at the excitement of the war.

I needed to make it to mother. No one from my new-found family was next to me. I was on my own. Left and right, vampire hunters were lunging at me, but I was faster, blasting them with my default power–light. My hands weren't on the reins anymore. Too many hunters wanted me dead.

"You joined the wrong team!" I shouted as a new set of hunters were making their way to Luna and I, "I don't want to kill you. But I will have to if you attack me!"

In a slur to scare them away, I extended my hands and concentrated on lifting my enemies one by one. Most of them were men and they started screaming with high-pitched noises that made my ears bleed.

One shouted at me in a blur of alphabets, "Let us down! Let us down!"

"I will have to kill you if I do that. Unless you retreat."

They looked at each other, panic and determination flooded their gaze as Luna slowed and started pacing around them. Other vampire hunters were making their way to me. I had to decide their fates. I breathed in and braced myself for what I was about to do. I yanked my hands in a throwing movement that made the hunters in the air fly to the other side of the battlefield–hopefully still alive. The incoming hunters froze and looked for their commander.

"Fucking kill her! She is just a girl!" I heard him shout and with his raised voice, raised my blood pressure. I looked at the commander who belittled me when I last came to visit my parents. Power was pulsing through me, Helia on high alert and ready to separate.

The commander's eyes widened as I shifted my gaze to him. I tilted my head, considering him. He looked terrified: he was shaking in his armor, red hair cascading on his shoulders. I smirked. Dark magic was coursing through me. KILL HIM.

Awareness coated my skin as Helia thrashed against the dark magic's grip.

Helia, we are in a war. Let the dark magic help us.

No, this is not us, Sage.

He deserves to die.

Yes, but you're considering torture.

Sometimes, I forget you can read my thoughts.

Sage. Her voice held tension and warning. Then, an image hit me. Nina.

Her screams filled my senses and yanked me from the dark magic's grip.

A woman wearing my mother's crest was choking my sister. Nina's teeth were seething as she struggled under the woman's grip.

I ran as fast as my legs could take me. The vampire hunters ran behind me, trying– and failing to catch up with me. The huntress had a smirk plastered on her face. One I would never forget to whom it belonged.

"Scarlet!" Suddenly, all the battles stopped, turning to watch as my voice vibrated through the mundane sandy landscape. I made my way to my sister and circled the soldier threatening to "choke her". No one knew she was a vampire now but soon enough, Scarlet was going to notice the unmoving chest of my sister and would switch her handle on her.

Scarlet laughed, only her eyes familiar to me, "Smart girl," she looked at my family. Choufu was looking at Scarlet in disbelief. Thomas was running to his mate and stopped short. Logan's eyes were like two ping-pong balls. Her gaze settled back on me, and a wicked grin that stretched up to her nose colored her face, "I see you're the only one who figured that out."
