Sage

Three months have passed since my poisoning. Three months since we've been trying to figure out how mother could transport her voice to us. Vampire Hunters had no special abilities or magic. Choufu has been on the case ever since he heard about it. My aunt rushed to Xerus when she heard about all the events and has been here ever since. The wedding was slowly approaching and I couldn't be more nervous and happier. Today, Logan and I were visiting the new rulers of Bemilis. After the death of the Dukas' relatives, the people voted for a newly wedded couple as their new rulers since there was no other legitimate Dukas blood in Bemilis anymore– thanks to my parents. In other words, our chance. We needed all the alliances we could get. Even though they were new rulers, they had a lot of soldiers left from Logan's cousins' time. It was a matter of time before my parents struck again. We needed to move quickly. On top of that, our mission was slowed down due to the betrayal. We couldn't trust anyone.

"Do you like it, love?", Logan's voice behind my back sent a chill down my spine. I turned from his black vanity and returned his warm smile.

"Yes."

He broke our eye contact to take in my dress. It was black and form-fitting. At its waist, it had gold feathers coming out of it as well as at its wrists. My cleavage was exposed more than usual. We were going to Bemilis. I topped it off with gold heels and a gold crown resembling the sun on my loose hair. I was trying on this dress for tomorrow as we were leaving to meet the new rulers at dawn.

"Do you like it?"

He took me in his arms and kissed my forehead. "I love it. I can't wait to see what you'll be wearing at our wedding."

I relaxed in his embrace and smiled. Everything was almost perfect. Almost.

A knock on our door made us jump apart.

"Yes?" I asked.

Nina entered with Thomas by her side. "Can we please come? The Dukas' parents can manage to rule without us."

I looked at Logan. I didn't mind. I needed a distraction after everything that had happened. He seemed to not mind either.

"Okay, but please behave."

Nina made a dramatically wounded expression, "We always do." She held Thomas's hand and looked deep into his eyes. They loved each other deeply and it made the tension ease from my shoulders. They were going to be okay. "Blondie, this is going to be our first trip together without having our lives at risk!" said my sister.

"Uh, we'll be here too," declared Logan.

"And don't be too sure. Everyone seems to want us dead these days," huffed Thomas.

She rolled her eyes, "Anyway, we have to go prepare our baggage," added Nina.

"Great, I'll go train with Choufu," I said, adrenaline already coursing through me.

Nina and Thomas left my room and I was following them too, but Logan grabbed my forearm, spun me and I crashed into his hard chest.

"Fiancee, do you mind telling me where you're really going?" asserted Logan while combing my hair with his fingers, his eyebrows flashing. He was so close to me I could feel his warmth radiating through him.

"To train, as I said ten seconds ago." I scoffed.

"You trained this morning and may I add you almost wore yourself out?" He said, his eyebrows frowning.

I sighed, "I'm trying to unlock new powers. It's been a while and even Helia is worried that we aren't in tune together anymore."

His eyes softened, "You are in tune with her, I feel it through our bond. It feels like a bliss, to say the least. It feels like heaven ascended. It makes my heart jump and swell anytime you use her to cast spells. Peace. Quiet. Order. Purpose. She's so graceful and powerful. Humble. Sweet like honey. Beautiful. But, more importantly, she's the same as you. If I didn't just define in tune, I don't know what else to do to change your mind."
