A/N: Sorry I haven't been updating as often. The new school year just started, and I won't be able to update as much, but I will try my best to update over weekends.
The Queen's pavilion was a shorter distance from the NightWing village than the dragonets expected. Most of them had never been to the rainforest, and those of have were never allowed to hang around the NightWing village without supervision. The dragonets who have been in the rainforest had also never flown directly from the NightWing village to the Queen's pavilion, and vice versa.
"I'm sure we all know each other, but let's formally meet anyway. I'm Queen Glory of the RainWings and NightWings. My over enthusiastic bodyguard is Deathbringer, and he is in big trouble."
"I'm Prince Winter of the IceWings," Winter replied, getting into his proper IceWing stance. "Will he be punished?"
"Appropriately," Glory replied, glaring at Deathbringer.
Just then, Glory walked out of the pavilion and asked, "Banana?"
Winter started to shake his head as a RainWing materialized out of thin air and bowed to Glory. "Actually, it's Heliconia, Your Majesty," said the RainWing. "But good guess."
"Heliconia, please escort our guests to the wingery for them to wait until we have caught the dangerous IceWing." Glory ordered politely for a queen.
"What!?" Winter cried, seething.
Glory fixed him with a steely glare and replied, "It's for your own safety. I will not tolerate to have any of my innocent students get injured, especially Moonwatcher and Kinkajou."
Glory sat up alertly, "Here come my watchers."
Dragons began appearing out of the leaves, materializing like the sun coming out from behind a cloud. The RainWings glided in and landed in what they thought was a 'line'. Winter haughtily looked down his snout at the RainWings and thought, They would be stuck in the Seventh Circle forever with that idea of a line.
Queen Glory then asked the RainWings if they had seen anything out of the ordinary that might give any hints that Icicle had already been here.
"I called you in to ask if any of you have seen any sign of an IceWing today," Queen Glory said. "For those of you who don't remember the lessons, those are the white or blue dragons with spiked tails and cold scales."
The RainWings all whipped around to look at Winter, and one of them said, "There's one right there!"
Glory exhaled slowly through her nose. "This is our guest, Prince Winter of the IceWings. Have you seen any dragons today that look like him?"
The RainWings all shook their heads. Winter glanced sideways at Moon and found that she was staring intently at one of the six colorful RainWing watchers, a graceful looking male whose scales were royal blue with little swirls of dark pink.
"um,," Moon said. "Your Majesty, can I ask-"
"Yes?" Glory asked, waving her talons. "Speak up."
"Just- even if they didn't see an IceWing," Moon continued, her gaze still locked on that RainWing, "anything suspicious - like something frozen or colder than usual..." she trailed off.
Winter breathed in sharply. That RainWing has seen something, and Moon can see it in his head. He thought, She should probably hide her mind reading abilities a little better, though.
Once the RainWing finished explaining to Queen Glory what he had seen, the RainWing queen decided to go look for clues at the sighting herself.
"I'm coming too," Winter insisted.
"As you wish, Prince Winter," Queen Glory replied with a slight nod of her head.
Moon stepped forward and Kinkajou then cried, "I want to come!"
Queen Glory shook her head, "No, you two are not coming along."
"She can come," Winter said in a bored voice with a what he hoped was an offhanded shrug, then jerked his chin at Kinkajou. "That's fine. Not her, though. She's way too loud."
"I AM NOT!" Kinkajou protested. "That's so unfair!"
"Kinkajou, you wanted me to be queen, and now you have to listen to me," Glory said firmly.
Glory looked surprised but then she nodded, "But all right, Moon, come along."
A few minutes later, they were maneuvering through the trees. Moon was surprisingly good at fitting in the small spaces in between the trees. Even Glory occasionally ran into things.
Just then, the RainWing queen twisted in mid air and called out, "That is a level of noisy that makes me think you aren't even trying to be stealthy. Come on out."
A sheepish Qibli flew out from behind a cluster of giant leaves. "I was trying to be stealthy, but I'm a SandWing, I live in the desert, with as much room as I want to spread my wings to their full width. It's not my fault there are so many things to run into here!"
"Let's go," Glory sighed, turning around again and heading towards the oldest banyan tree.
A short while later, the four dragons landed in a small space. Moon shivered and shook her head at Winter. She hasn't sensed any IceWing minds, or more specifically, my sister's, he realized.
Suddenly, Winter heard Queen Glory take a sharp intake of breath. "What is it?" he asked, rushing over. The RainWing queen gestured to a large patch of dead grass. There were flecks of ice on the blades, and the middle of it was still green, as if something, or someone had been blocking Icicle's frostbreath.
After clearing away the debris, they found the corpse of a NightWing guard, frozen in frostbreath, which confirmed one thing: Icicle was definitely here.
Heliconia escorted the dragonets to the dragonet wingery, and it was worse than anything that Winter could ever imagine. They were then waiting for Moon to give the signal that the guards weren't paying as much attention to the wingery.
