I need a new distraction. I need to get back on the stick. Release the dragon. Reborn.

Ally asks me to be romantic, it always a getaway, an addition, extra, not just me. Its always me+something else. Me+weed, me+alcohol, me+netflix, me+distraction. Does she even love me, technically yes, but completely, unknown.

I know better.

As long as its me+something, then yes, maybe.

I'm on the uptick- somethings different. Five days ago I was crushing- crushing with the guilt of Vera thinking WTF am i doing? My secret grows, can I maintain it?

I tell my partner what happened Sunday.

"You did the right thing." he tells me inside the old club.

The old club , K1 is dying. Some scandal rocking the area. Its nearly dead, day time shift, the bleakness of desperate strippers all perched on one side of the room, not wasting time with men who won't convert.

"Did I?" Thinking back to Sunday, the series of decisions that led to Vera crashing out and me watching, standing guard.

I wasn't thinking, I took the opportunity. For what? What did I think would happen? Which one of me's was driving that night?

"Happened to me once..." Veer said playing back a similar story. Similar events, similar outcomes. Am I thinking too much again?

A petite black girl takes to the stage, she's short but pretty. Her hips, the sleek complexion, curves bending the lights, a girl in glasses, eyes looking up in a slow glance.

Staring at my partner, confirming that maybe I did do the right thing. "You're not into petite are you?" I ask as he scans his phone.

"No I am not." he says looking at me and then the black stripper. "I'd hit it." he smirks.

I decide to tip her, she's sleek, alluring in this desperate hunger chamber. Her ass bounces on the ring side stage, she smiles at me.

"I always see you..." she says extending her hand out to me in greeting. "Ruby..." she says.

"Parker" I reply.

"You're Vera's..." Ruby says with a smile.

The onset of ownership.

"Yep, that's me..." I laugh.

I'm Vera's. My dog tags showing.

Sitting back down I check my phone, no real messages. Ruby stops by, sliding in next to me, snuggling close. I'm a feely person, I like a good feel. I like that snug attention, that notion that yeah we'll share some body heat even if its at thigh level.

2 for 1 dance song blares as my partner snags a tall blonde and disappears in the back. I smile at Ruby, she smiles at me. Back in the back we wait for the first song to begin. She reminds me of Kitty, another dancer I once knew.

The pages of once knew flip in my mind. The club implosion has scattered a dozen girls I once knew all over the state, and the country for that matter. I hear whispers. Kitty works in another city. A few other girls, Victoria? Works at other clubs in town. Why my fuss? These are the girls of my show, my cheers, they've all been scattered.

"Joe gave me my start..." Ruby says half way thru the dance. Its a good dance.

"I begged Joe to let me try.. I needed this job so bad, I'm a 5th grade teacher, ya know we make like 17k a year? Crazy..." Ruby says sliding off me changing positions.

"You remind me of Kitty" I say and she stops and stands up staring at me.

"Kitty is soul sister! I love that you said that. She's working at Oscar's now..." Ruby says with renewed vigor, her dance getting even more sensual, like I found the right button to hit.
