Ever since I was a kid, the only life I knew consisted of a family owned bar, and my father going away for days, sometimes weeks, almost months at a time. It happened sporadically and he never mentioned when he'd come back or when he'd leave. Every time he'd leave, my mom would throw fits. She'd be on edge, tired, worried, and a bit annoying and scary. Then my dad would come back and she'd be better again. The only one who really helped me through these tough times were my older, but strange, brother. He never let the bad thing's happen to me. Ever since dad died and I learned about the monsters lurking around the world, I had always wanted to make a difference.
The bar my mom owned, was constantly housing people similar to my dad who needed a drink after a long, gruesome hunt. They each shared stories with me, telling me how it was, the people they've saved, children and families. The scariest part of their hunt, how they saved the person in the end. If you got them drunk enough, they'd even talk about the ones they couldn't save. But usually by that point the bar was closing and my mom would usher them out.
I think dad's stories and the other hunter's in the bars were getting to my head because I wanted to be like them so much. I never fit in with any of the girls around school. I dressed to casual for them. Always in boots, jeans, and plain tops. I had a knife collection, and knew the ins and outs of a gun better than I knew the back of my hand. I knew defensive tactics, so I never had any problems with any girls who wanted to fight in high school either. My mom didn't like it though and pushed me to go to college. I did, of course, not wanting to ruin her life too much. But, same as high school, I didn't fit in there either. I always felt like there was something more for me.
I searched high and low for a case, and I found one. A few girls had all gone missing, same description on each woman, from the same apartment complex. The only reason why the cops hadn't done anything about it, was because there were no connections between the women, and the fact that these disappearances happened so little, so spaced apart that none of the current police enforcement would even remember the past occurrences. I took time collecting my data, compiling a folder for it all and presenting it to my mother. She didn't seem to like the idea too much, because now we're arguing in the middle of the bar.
"Why can't you just let me go?" I asked, like it was nothing. To me, it wasn't. It was a simple case, a ten year old could solve it, no problem. "I don't want to go to your funeral! I've already been through so many of those. I don't want your face to become a memory!"
"You're not being reasonable!"
"I am your mother, I do not have to be reasonable!" She sets a chair down on the floor. "You can't keep me here!" I shouted as she began walking away from me. "Oh don't you bet on that sweetheart."
"What are you gonna do? Chain me up in the basement!" I shouted following after her. The bar was opening soon, but I had much bigger problems on my hand than an old rickety bar. "You've had worse ideas than that recently." She shouted. Suddenly she turned around, her eyes glaring at me. "You don't wanna stay, don't. Go back to school."
"I didn't belong there! I was a freak with a knife collection!" I shouted back. She knew all the times I called in the middle of the night, crying because of the whispers in class, the childish rumors that I was a killer, a murderer out to get people in the night. "Yeah, but getting yourself killed on a back road, that's where you belong?" She asked in frustration. I stare back and forth between her, and the two men that came into the bar. Matthew and Christopher Winchester. Two incredibly knowledgeable and skilled hunters. Our families have a bit of a past, not sure how though, just that their father and mine used to hunt together back in the day before my dad died.
