"Good afternoon my lovely, beautiful, wonderful, amazing, perfect, lovely- wait did I already say lovely?" Hawks asks and I bite my lip as I try not to smile at his antics.
"You did," I say as he moves into the bookstore.
"Well, it's true," Hawks shrugs. He looks far to handsome right now. His golden waves pushed back away from his face, a white button up shirt rolled to the elbows, and dark slacks.
"Hi, Hawks."
"Hi, Dove. When do you get off work?" he asks as he leans on the counter.
"Soon. Why?"
"Is that Hawks?" Harumi pops her head out of the office. My face gets warm.
"Hello again, ma'am."
"So, I'm assuming you two have made up then. I'm glad. Poor Kana was so upset. All mopey around the shop," Harumi cackles.
"HARUMI!"
Hawks laughs loudly and I glare at the both of them.
"Yes ma'am. I can admit when I'm wrong. Even if it takes me a while."
"Oh, I doubt you could ever be wrong, Hawks," Harumi says as she saunters out the office swinging her hips.
"I can be pretty hard headed. That being said... do you think it would be alright for Kana to leave early today? I need her for something important."
Harumi looks dejected as she glances over at me. Sometimes I'm not sure if she is rooting for me or against me, "I suppose. We haven't been busy since the rumors died down about you two dating."
"Then let's go, Dove." Hawks grabs my purse and starts pulling me out the door. Harumi waves and takes my seat at the counter.
"Where are you taking me?" I ask as he guides me away from the store.
"We, my songbird, are going on a date tonight. I made reservations and everything."
I put everything I have into stopping us. I dig my heels into the concrete ground and yank my wrist out of his grasp. With a panicked trill he turns around.
"Are you kidding me, Hawks. I'm so not dressed for a fancy date with you. You need to let me go home and at least put on a dress."
He picked the worst laundry day imaginable to pop this on me. I'm wearing old ratty torn jeans and a shirt with a noticeable oil stain on the front I wasn't able to get out of an old shirt with my high school's name on it.
"What do you mean. I think you look fine," he shrugs.
"No. Not happening. No way. You have got to be kidding me. Let me run home and change first."
He sighs but grabs my hand again and changes course, "How am I supposed to plan spontaneous dates under these conditions."
"Um you don't. You gotta warn a girl. Unless we're like... staying in. You can't take me to a nice restaurant like this," I laugh.
"Okay. I'm sorry. I'm just excited. I miss you and now I get to do stuff like this with you and I'm just so happy."
"I'm happy too, pretty bird. I'll be quick, okay?"
When we arrive at my apartment, I pull out a simple red dress. It's nothing too fancy, a deep red halter dress and a pair of black strappy heels. Touya's necklace lays over the fabric nicely. I toss my hair up in a nice bun and quickly curl the few pieces by my face while I apply some quick makeup. It isn't my best work, but it will have to do on the time crunch. I exit my room as I toss a few things in my clutch. Hawks is lounging on my couch, knees spread wide as he scrolls on his phone. I bite my lip as I watch him. I'm so fucking happy to have him back.
