The charity gala happens fast. It's just over a week later when Keigo is at my balcony door tapping his foot as I make sure I have everything. Bacon is fed, I have my keys, my phone, a change of clothes, and some money though Keigo tells me over and over all I need is my phone.
He scoops me up in his arms and flies us to the commission building. He's holding more tension than usual. His stiff and he keeps sighing. Part of me wonders if it was something I did or if he's just nervous about tonight. Before we enter, I pull him aside.
"We don't have to do this tonight," I start, and he looks at me confused.
"What are you talking about, dove?"
"You seem so stressed. If you're not ready to come out about our relationship we don't have to. We can wait. I can go and they can call one of the models they have on speed dial."
"No!" he chirps, "no dove. No this isn't about that. Dove I can't wait to tell the entire world you're mine. Believe me. I want nothing more. The commission just stresses me out. I have to watch what I say, how I say it, who I talk to. It's all very specific."
"Promise? I don't want you stressing about me."
"Kana I pinky promise this isn't about you," he says as he pulls me to him and kisses me deeply.
Keigo leads me into the commission building to the same space we went for the fitting. Immediately Misa grabs me and pulls me away from Keigo while talking a mile a minute. I struggle to keep up. She plops me in a chair and two stylists dressed in all black begin working. One tackles my hair while the other quickly does my nails. Then someone new comes in and does my make up. When it's all frankly done, I get turned to the mirror.
My hair is tied up in an elegant high bun. Gems matching the one on the dress weaved into it. The pieces around my face are curled and laid carefully. My makeup is a red to back smokey eye with a deep red lip. I stare at myself astonished. Me. That's me.
My nails are just basically matte black coffins which I adore. Quickly Misa take my hand with a bright smile and starts piling the accessories on. Earrings, necklace, rings. It's all very deliberate.
She helps me into the strappy black heels and then carefully helps me into my dress. It fits perfectly. Every part of it hugging my body just right. My eyes start to water.
"Oh no! If you're going to cry bend over and let gravity, take it. No way you're ruining your make up!" Misa shouts as she fans my face.
"I'm okay" I laugh, "Misa where is all my stuff?" I ask panicked. Both of Mt necklaces are gone.
"don't worry. Everything was sent back to Hawks house. It should be waiting for you on his entryway table."
I sigh and nod. I'm a little unhappy I won't have Touya's necklace, but it will be fine. Misa holds my hand as she guides me out of the dressing room. Keigo is standing in front of one of the large mirrors adjusting his jacket and hair. Much to his stylists distress.
When I stop, he turns. His jacket and pants are black making his wings stand out wonderfully. Beneath it he has on a deep red shirt. Gold accents cover him and match his eyes so perfectly I wonder if they chose it on purpose. His hair is pushed back out of his face and when I meet his eyes, he looks engrossed in me. Eyes scanning up and down then back up again only to dart right back down. His eyes pin as the light catches one of the gold gems on my dress.
I'm starting to feel embarrassed. What if he doesn't think I look good and is just letting his bird brain take over. Keigo's stylist clears her throat and nudges him. It pulls him out of whatever trance he's in and he quickly crosses the floor.
