I hear Keigo groans as he sits up and move back into his room. He pouts at me from his bed, and I lean against the door frame as I dry my hands on the dish towel. They discharged him a few days ago and it hasn't been the most pleasant of times. He's moody, cranky, and constantly upset. At one point he asked me to go to his office to get him some paperwork to do while he's stuck in bed and when I refused, he got Enji to bring some over behind my back.

"Kana," he wines.

"What do you need, pretty bird?"

"I need to go back to work," he grumbles, and it takes everything in me not to roll my eyes. I move into his room and sit on the edge of the bed. Bacon looks up at me lazily. He's been enjoying staying at Keigo's apartment and sleeping in the large bed. Keigo reaches for me, and I allow him to tug me into bed with him.

"You should be relaxing. This is like a vacation. Watch some trash television. Read a book. Something."

"I don't want any of that. I want to get back out there and save people."

"Kei, even if you could go out right now, your feathers aren't even grown back in. You need to rest and recover."

Keigo sighs and drops back on the bed with a wince, "I can't keep just laying here, Kana. I'm going fucking crazy."

"Then don't. Your legs aren't broken just your wing. We can go out and do something. You're off the heaviest of the meds and if you want to come back you can just buy us a cab."

"Where would we even go?" he sighs.

"We could go to the mall, or I think Touya's shift just started, or we could just go walk around town. And get this you can wear one of Touya's big hoodies and throw on a hat and no one will recognize you."

"I don't know, Dove. Everything just feels like too much and not enough all at the same time."

"Then we can stay in. I can run and get us some food from your favorite place and then we can watch movies on the couch," I brush his hair out of his face and his eyes meet mine. He looks so sad, but he nods eventually. I kiss his cheek and stand, pulling his tee-shirt off and tossing it at him since I know he's staring.

I change quickly and kiss him before slipping out the door and heading to the store. I pick up popcorn and snacks before stopping at the adult coloring books. Maybe this can be something to keep his mind occupied for a while. I pick out two, one a pro hero book and the other one with Japanese scenery. Then I head to the crafts isle and pick up a large pack of coloring pencils. If anything, it will keep me occupied.

Next, I stop at his favorite restaurant, I called ahead, and placed a to-go order so it is ready when I arrive.

I wait as they bring me the to-go bag but suddenly my blood runs cold.

"Kana?"

"mom?" I ask as I turn. There she is. The woman I haven't seen in seven years since she kicked me out on my 17th birthday. The woman who made my life hell. The woman who never loved me or cared if I was around.

She sneers at me, "what did I tell you about calling me that."

My eyes drop and suddenly I'm seven again wishing she would love me, "sorry Ayako."

"You know," she says pushing last me to the register, "I'm honestly kind of impressed. I don't know how you managed to fool one man into loving let alone the number two pro hero."

"I didn't fool them into loving me," I start to argue but her cold stare turns to me sharply.

"you really think someone could love you? You're useless. You never did anything worthwhile. You never did the chores I asked you to do. What kind of woman can't do what she's told? Either you got your act together, though I doubt it with the way you're talking back to me, or you fooled them."
