Once I shut my phone, I throw it on my bed and grab a backpack. I make a mental check list of what I need and start packing.

Pjs (which consist of one of Jax's t-shirts and some white cotton shorts), underwear, clothes for tomorrow (black shorts and a blue top), toiletries, pair of socks, hairbrush, the book I'm currently reading, and finally my charger. I close up my bag, check the time on my phone (6:05), and head down, where the noise becomes almost overwhelming. The tv is on way too loud, and Mom is busy trying to get the twins—who are screaming and running around—to take off their muddy shoes.

"Mom, I'm staying over at Jax's; bye." I say, already heading for the door.

"Wait, what? Hold on there, honey." Mom said quickly, with a sort of warning tone.

I stop and turn slowly around to face her. I internally cringe once I see the look on her face; it's her "we need to talk" face.

"What's wrong? I have to go." I say impatiently. I do not feel like sitting through a lecture.

"Who else is going?" My mom asks, and I know exactly where this conversation is leading.

"Umm, you know...my friends." I say quietly. My mom is the only person who I cannot easily lie to.

"Don't lie to me, Gillian. It's going to be just who's staying at Jax's, isn't it?" My mom answers herself to the question she asked.

I shut my eyes tightly, but before I can respond, another voice speaks up.

"She's staying where?" My dad asks from the kitchen door.

Great. This just keeps getting better and better.

"Oh my god, I have no time for this. I need to leave." I turn back towards the front door, but once I open it, the sky is no longer blue. Heavy rain is falling from the sky, and I'm shocked I didn't hear it before.

I snap back into reality, and I feel the prescience of both of my parents behind me.

Shit.

"Can someone please drive me over to Jax's?" I ask, hoping someone, preferably my dad, says yes without asking any questions.
