Mariah enters Arienna's bedroom

Arienna: (jumps out of her bed) Mariah?! Why did you have to scare me like that?!

Mariah: shh! Rob's downstairs. I think he's moving in. I think he's staying here for a couple of days. Mom is helping Rob with his stuff right now.

Arienna: why is Rob moving in here?

Mariah: cause Rob lost his job due to that girl putting her hands on you!

Arienna: shh!!

Mariah: don't shush me! Rob lost his job because of you-

Arienna: first of all Rob did the right thing! Okay?! All those people who were in McDonald's didn't do shit. At least Rob defended me!

Mariah: you know what? You're right okay? But I'm gonna wake your ass up early in the morning so we can talk to Rob. Thank goodness it's Saturday. Goodnight. (Leaves the room and slams the door)

Hours later in the morning

Arienna: (walks in the living room seeing Rob sleeping on the couch) Rob?

Rob: (slowly opens his eyes) Arienna what are you doing up this morning?

Arienna: it's 10:00 am. I get up early every day. How long are you gonna stay here? I know the whole story

Rob: how come?

Arienna: Mariah.

Rob: oh man..(slowly sits up from the couch) I lost my job. You know that girl Adrianna's parents are suing the McDonald's I use to work?

Arienna: they are??

Rob: yeah kid. My manager fired my ass. Then My dad sort of kicked me out but I was tired of him anyway. I always ran away from home.

Arienna: what made you come back every time?

Rob: I don't know. Probably regret or me not having enough money to take care of myself. My father is super strict. I have nowhere to go. I'm homeless kid. I'm only going to stay here for a couple of days until I get up on my feet. If you need anything from me I'm always here.

Arienna thinks

Arienna: Rob are you hungry?

Rob: little bit why?

Arienna: cause I've been thinking about pancakes. I want pancakes right now. You know how to make pancakes?

Rob: yeah. You?

Arienna: of course Rob. Come on let's make some pancakes (grabs Rob's hand)

Arienna's POV
Rob and I had fun making and eating pancakes together. I just wanted Rob to feel better after what happened to him. We started talking about our dreams but also went deep down into our childhood trauma and racism we both endured as biracial people.

Rob: kids use to call me Kunta kinte when I was a kid all because I was the only black kid in school. I wasn't accepted in school cause I was different. Kids said a lot of mean stuff to me. It was really bad.

Arienna: I'm sorry Rob. Do you have any siblings

Rob: I have a sister who's adopted just like me

Arienna: (looks at Rob) you were adopted?! You have a sister who's adopted?!

Rob: yeah. Just like you

Arienna: wow..wait a minute, I think I asked you before if you were adopted..

Rob: (thinks) oh yeah I just remembered. But I think I asked you if you were adopted first. I was adopted at 4 by a white German couple. I was in the orphanage until I was 4.
