Chapter 4: Face to Face

Miya Centric:
Miya presses the call button and waits for her older sister to pick up. The line of the video call rings for a bit. 'Maybe they're busy,' she thinks, starting to regret calling.

Kyra finally answers the call, "Hi Yami!" she greets enthusiastically as she uses one of Miya's nicknames.

Miya chuckles before responding, using one of Kyra's nicknames as well. "Hi, Kiya. I hope I'm not bothering you."

Kyra flashes her iconic sunshine smile as she responds. "Of course not. We just finished our schedules for the day. We're now working on a new song for a collab with a game."

"A new song already? Didn't you just release a Japanese full album? And right after your second full album?" Miya asks, her eyebrows raising in surprise and disbelief.

Kyra nods and shrugs as if it's a normal thing. "Yeah... but what can we do?"

Miya sighs in frustration. She already knows from experience how Sunshine loves to overwork their artists.

Kyra decides to change the topic. "Anyways... what's up? You hate calling -"

She's suddenly interrupted by a loud voice. "Is that Yami I hear?" A few seconds later, a girl runs into the room. It was Yoona, Kyra's groupmate, and another one of Miya's best friends. She gets settled next to Kyra, making herself comfortable.

"Jimin! Ailee! Come quick. Yami's on the phone!" she yells out, calling the last two members of Black Forest. She turns to Kyra, playfully punching her in the shoulder. "Why didn't you tell me?"

Kyra just rolls her eyes at her member's antics before Yoona turns back to the camera. "Hi Yami!" she says as she smiles and waves happily at the camera.

Miya smiles and gladly waves back, chuckling at Yoona's antics. Even though they're quite busy, they've never drifted apart, and she's still close with all of Black Forest. Her two other best friends finally enter the room. Jimin and Ailee greet her excitedly as well, probably because it's been a while since she's seen any of them.

"So, before I was so rudely interrupted," Kyra pauses to playfully glare at Yoona, the latter just smirking at her. "You hate calling, so you must have something big to tell us."

Miya's face brightens up again as she remembers the reason she called. "Right. The news is..." she pauses for dramatic effect. "I'm going to debut!"

There was silence, but only for a second. "Finally!" Ailee exclaims, playfully rolling her eyes.

"Right? It's been long deserved," Yoona says in agreement.

Kyra claps happily, smiling from ear to ear. She had been waiting for this moment for such a long time. "JYPE finally recognised your skills and talent, huh?"

"Wait. Not to ruin the mood, but how exactly? Unless JYPE's planning to debut another girl group?" Jimin, being the logical one among them, asks. She puts an emphasis on the word 'another'.

Miya chuckles, feeling a little nervous for some reason. "About that... you know how there's been the whole mixed-gender groups issue, right? Well, I'll be joining Stray Kids as their ninth member," she answers.

There's another silence, though she couldn't tell if this one was good or bad. "What?!" Yoona exclaims, her eyes wide. They definitely weren't expecting that. Jimin and Kyra don't say anything, still processing the information. They were all shocked.

Ailee sighs before saying, feeling a little protective. "Yami... I don't know how to feel about you staying with 8 men." Jimin nods eagerly, agreeing with her.

Miya says calmly, "Look. I appreciate your concerns... but I can handle myself. I'm 22, for God's sake."

Kyra, who hadn't shown a visible reaction up until now, speaks up. "She has a point there. Look. I don't trust them. But I do trust Yami." Ailee lets out a huff but doesn't say anything in protest.

Miya smiles. That was enough for her. "See? This is why you're my sister, Kiya."

Time skip: (A week later)
It was finally time for Miya to move into the Stray Kids dorm. Kyra had agreed to drive her to the JYPE building. From there, she would go to the dorm after JYP introduced her to the boys. Miya agreed, as she didn't have a driver's license. She was just praying that Kyra wouldn't crash them the whole ride there, as she had just gotten her driver's license recently. Maybe she should have asked Jimin to drive her instead...

"Remind me never to let you drive me anywhere again," Miya says, sighing in relief as she gets out of the car once Kyra had parked it. They were now in front of the entrance to the JYPE building.

Kyra just laughs at her shaken up state before taking her hand in hers. "You ready, Yami?" she asks.

Miya squeezes Kyra's hand, shrugging, "Ready as I'll ever be."

They enter the building. On their way to JYP's office, Lily runs up to them with an excited look on her face.

"Yazumi. They're already there. Good luck!" the Aussie says. Miya's eyes widen in surprise. She wasn't expecting them to already be there. She quickly snaps herself back to reality.

Lily also bows slightly to Kyra in respect, the latter doing the same. "Okay. Thank you, Lily," Miya says, smiling at the aussie. Lily smiles back before running off again, probably to vocal practice.

"She seems nice," Kyra comments as they enter an elevator.

"She really is," Miya responds, a fond smile on her face as she thinks about Lily.

She would normally be awkward being with someone in an elevator, but since it was Kyra, she was fine. Once they reach the top floor, they step out of the elevator. Stopping in front of the door to JYP's office, they stop so that Miya can have a moment to mentally prepare herself.

After a bit, Miya knocks on the door. They both enter when they hear JYP's signal to come in. Just as Lily had said, Stray Kids and JYP were in the room.

Miya took a close look at the boys. Whoever said that K-pop idols looked more attractive in real life was right. They looked absolutely stunning. She had seen them online, of course. And a few times in the JYPE building, but never up close.

JYP clears his throat, making Miya turn her gaze away from the boys. "Kyra. Yazumi," the CEO says in a greeting, as the two Japanese bow slightly in respect.

JYP then gestures to Miya, looking at the boys. "Boys. This is Miya, your newest member. Please take care of her and help her adjust to her new life," he says, a bright smile on his face.

Miya looks at the boys again. They were looking at her like they were studying her intensely. Something felt off, though. As she looked closer, she thought she could see that Minho had a small, almost unnoticeable scowl on his face.
