It was never Shouto's intention to do anything reckless. He just thought he could do it. If he could, he would have spared himself a second of stalling, and of course he could have thought of something else, such as leaving it to someone else, or getting things in order before heading out. But still, at that moment, he chose to run through, to break through the shortest route he had decided on.
Shouto, together with four of his classmates who happened to be in the basement reference room as part of the same group at that time, headed for the large auditorium occupied by the group of criminals. He later heard that there was an informant on the faculty side who had leaked all the information, including the president's briefing on the new curriculum for the media in the auditorium that day, and where security would be allocated for that purpose. However, the culprits must have miscalculated that some of the students attending the school would take action on their own.
The fact that the group of criminals was using a rather high-tech laser gun was evident from the armament of the guards around the van that had driven into the auditorium. From their distinctive bright white robe-like clothing and emblems, it was possible to predict that they were probably an armed group that has been committing terrorist acts here and there recently. As he recalls, they had a radical ideology about abandoning lead bullets, digitizing everything, and having the government manage the IDs of all citizens.
Also, it became clear that the objective of the criminal group was not to assassinate the president, as they loudly proclaimed their intentions to the assembled media. They occupied the National Police Academy, which has one of the most antiquated systems in Japan, to insist that they stop the barbaric, bloody acts of lead bullets, and humiliated the president and the other assembled dignitaries who had gathered there. In a way, it was a very simple plot.
The reason they were able to easily break into the school and take control of the interior of the auditorium so easily was simply because they had obtained the uniforms of the school's security staff uniforms (from this point on, it was obvious that there was someone on the inside). Before storming into the main auditorium, Shouto and the others followed their example and put on security uniforms in the security waiting room. Thanks to their lightweight full-face helmets, the enemy was able to deceive the school authorities, but ironically, Shouto and the others were able to deceive them in the same way. They were well aware that there was only so much that five students could do, so they aimed for the podium in the main auditorium in the shortest possible route.
The plan was simple. All they had to do was just trust the stubbornness of their ideology, of a sort. They had asked the mechanic professor, where Shouto and the others had studied a liberal arts seminar, to time it so that he would fire a pulse that would blow away the communication systems of all the electronic devices. They hadn't had anything with such a wide range or high output, but in this case it would be enough to cover the lecture hall. The latest weapons are controlled by communication systems, which sets the target's aim based on the distance and even calculates the power based on the mass of the target. They used that to their advantage. A laser gun that isn't loaded with live ammunition would not be able to emit even a single beam of light if the brain was stunned.
However, there was less than 30 seconds until the system would return to normal. Of course, if a gun had been pulled out during that time, it would have been the end, and in fact, there were people who had carried one, going against their own style. As a result, in the midst of a hand-to-hand combat, Shouto was shot in the thigh just as he was about to strangle the leader of the group, but the man's gun, perhaps because it had not been maintained, accidentally went off, gouging the outside of Shouto's left thigh along with the man's right hand, causing him to suffer a fractured femur.
