Aayra

It was a typical Sunday, but it felt anything but ordinary to me. My father had finally given his nod of approval for my internship in Delhi—a moment I had been anxiously waiting for. My 4th semester exams had just concluded, and I had been actively applying for offline internships. Among the applications, two companies had responded positively—one in Pune and the other in Delhi. After clearing the online assessments and interviews, I was fortunate to receive offer letters from both.

Convincing my father to let me go alone was no small feat. He had his reservations about me living independently in a bustling city like Delhi. But after numerous discussions and reassurances, he finally agreed. Last evening, he called to inform me that we would be leaving for Delhi from Ranchi—my hometown—on the night of the 27th. My family decided to accompany me, helping me settle in for the 45 days I’d be living there for my internship.

Today is the 25th, and I’ve planned to head to Ranchi tomorrow to spend some time at home before the big move. The excitement and nervousness had been building up, so I spent the day packing everything I would need for the next month and a half. As I folded clothes and organized my belongings, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and uncertainty about what lay ahead.

In the afternoon, I had a conversation with the warden about my plans. She was understanding and wished me luck, reminding me to stay in touch during my time away. As the evening approached, I realized I needed to inform my Head of Department (HOD) about my departure. It was already 5 p.m., so I quickly made the call. To my relief, he was supportive and granted me permission to leave, emphasizing the importance of this opportunity for my career.

With everything falling into place, the reality of my impending move began to sink in. The next few days would be a whirlwind of activity—traveling back to Ranchi, spending time with family, and mentally preparing myself for the challenges and experiences that awaited me in Delhi. This internship was more than just a professional step; it was the beginning of a new chapter, one that I hoped would shape my future in ways I couldn’t yet imagine.

The next day, I left early in the morning and reached home by noon. I spent the day resting and adding more items to my luggage, double-checking everything to ensure I hadn't forgotten anything important. The following day, my mom and I went to a nearby salon to get the basics done—hair, nails, and a bit of pampering to make sure I looked and felt my best. With our preparations complete, we were all set to leave in the evening.

I booked a cab for 5 p.m. since our train was scheduled to depart at 7:30 p.m. Knowing that the evening traffic could be unpredictable, we decided to leave a bit earlier, which turned out to be a wise choice. We got stuck in traffic for about half an hour, but despite the delay, we managed to reach the station by 6:45 p.m., with time to spare.

As the train pulled into the station, we boarded our 2nd class AC compartment and settled in. The train departed right on schedule, and after a comfortable journey, we arrived in Delhi the next day. We had pre-booked a hotel room for our stay while we searched for a suitable place for me to live during my internship. The 29th was spent in a whirlwind of PG hunting, exploring various options until we found one that checked all the boxes. It was a cozy place, just a 10-minute walk from my office—a perfect balance of convenience and comfort.

With my living arrangements secured, I felt a wave of relief wash over me. My parents decided to stay with me for two more days, until the 31st, to help me settle in and explore the city a bit. We visited some of Delhi's famous spots, enjoying our time together before they had to leave.
