A/N - No I'm not going to visit everyone's triplet, just Shel and Dashi.
Shellington almost dropped his cup of tea when Crash materialised beside him. For a couple main reasons. Firstly, he had no idea where the tea came from. He had been wanting one for a while, and then it appeared in his hand. Secondly... Crash had just materialised beside him.
"So..." Crash said slowly. "Don't share your deepest, darkest secrets yet guys..."
"But I was just telling these two of my childhood crush-" Min said with... Was that disappointment!?
"Well, you're exempt from this next thing then," Crash shrugged. "I want you, Shellington, and Professor Natquik to tell me your thoughts on the Octonauts' photographer."
Shellington gulped.
"Dashi?"
"Well yeah, who else?"
Silence.
"Ahem ahem. I will go first," Natquik announced with a raised paw. "I believe that Dashi is very nice, yes yes. She is kind and always ready for story time. And, uh, I think that she takes very good care of all of us, yes yes."
"It's hard to believe that she's one of the youngest Octonauts," Shellington mused. "She's so mature when she takes care of all of us. But she's only 23."
"How... How do you know her age?" Min asked with narrowed eyes.
"She told me... It's not like I asked or anything! She just told me..."
Once again, silence.
"But genuinely," Shellington said, more desperately this time. "I didn't ask."
Crash pulled out some sort of wire-stuffed machine, with the words "LIE DETECTOR" scribbled on top. He pulled off this weird patch and slapped it on Shellington's paw. Then he motioned for Shellington to speak again.
"I didn't ask."
No frantic beeping from the detector. Crash shrugged and the whole set up disappeared.
"He's not lying. She genuinely just told him her age. How odd, for someone like Dashi." He paused here. "But anyways, you still haven't told us your thoughts on Dashi."
Shellington remained silent for about half a minute.
"I... I think she's very lovely."
"Any more?" Crash asked, after Shellington took an extraordinarily long pause.
"Well," said the sea otter uncertainly. "If I tell you, will you promise to never tell anyone else?"
"Of course," everyone in the triplet said immediately.
"Here," Crash added, with a wave of his hand. "I've even put up a sound-proof barrier. No one will be able to hear." (Except for the microphone on Crash's lapel).
"Okay," said Shellington, looking at least a little comforted by this. "I... Heck, now I don't even know how to say it. I..."
"Out with it!" Min exclaimed, looking a little exasperated.
"I like Dashi. As in, really like her. She's cute, and she's passionate, and she's so good at keeping her cool and she's got the looks to match. I..." The sudden spark Shellington had inside of him was dying off. "I don't know where that came from."
"I know," Min said, eyes closed. "It came from a place of deep, sincere emotion and love."
"I... I guess you could say that," Shellington said quietly, looking at the corner of the room. "Thanks guys."
"But half of us haven't said anything," Natquik added, confused.
"Thanks for just listening and accepting it."
"Well then you're welcome."
Crash didn't say anything. Maybe he was letting the situation go unbroken and respected, maybe he was thinking about real things from his own life. Maybe he was simply sitting there and letting his mind wander...
Who knew?
