Chapter 39

When we get back to Victor's house he leads me to his room and has a couple of his guys bring in my things. Once we're all settled and have had a chance to unpack a little and change clothes we head downstairs to the dining room. When we walk into the room I see a very large dining table in the shape of a U that seats about 24 people. Everyone is standing around the table with 2 seats empty. Victor and I walk over to the empty seats and before we sit down Victor clears his throat. "I would like to formally introduce you all to Rae" he says and I shyly look around the room to see all eyes on me "as many of you know she worked for Ryder and is the one who killed Alejandro to protect the mafia leaders" he adds and I can hear some murmurs and I look around the room. "Rae has joined our family and will be treated with respect. If anyone has a problem with this speak now" Victor says in a demanding tone. After a few seconds a woman at the far end of the table speaks up "how can we ensure her loyalty?" She asks. Victor looks directly at her "just like each of you has done Rae has pledged her loyalty to us and furthermore Liliana she has pledged herself to me as we are romantically involved and I trust her wholeheartedly and my word is law" Victor says and Liliana nods in agreement. Victor then looks around the room again "anyone else?" he says and the room remains silent "very well as tonight is a celebration I had the chefs prepare a feast so let's all sit and enjoy ourselves" he says with a smile and the room erupts into cheers and everyone sits down to eat. I take the seat next to Victor and he places a hand on my thigh. We begin to eat and everyone at the table resumes normal conversation during dinner. About halfway through dinner Victor turns to me and smiles "so what do you think?" he asks and I look at him "what do you mean?" I reply and he chuckles "I know you Rae you study people and you've been doing that since we walked into the room" he looks around "what have you learned?" he asks.
I look around the room and nod towards a tall blue haired guy with tattoos "he is a fighter who has a soft spot for kittens, he's a vegetarian and doesn't drink but he smokes" Victor nods "Blaze and you are correct" he says and I nod towards a blonde haired guy with tattoos and a leather jacket "he prefers knives to guns, reads, is in a committed relationship and has an injury to he left knee" I say and he looks at me "how'd you know?" He asks and I get up and walk to him and grab his hand that has a fork in it "look at the way he holds his fork it's the same way you would a knife" I turn his hand over "no visible callus on his index finger so no trigger pulling, and faint scars on the side of your hand" I then grab his phone "a selfie with a woman as you background indicates a romantic relationship and when you sat down you favored your right knee" I say and head back to my seat. The guy looks at me "she's scary Victor" and victor laughs "that she is Nate" he says. A few other members asked me to say what I learned about them and when I was done the only person left was Liliana. I look at her and she rolls her eyes "go for it" she says and I shrug "you don't trust easily obviously, you have a thing for Victor, you don't get your hands dirty meaning you are either the bait or spy, and you're pregnant" the whole table gasps and looks at her. She glares at me "how do you know?" she says and I take a deep breath "the moment Victor and I walked into the room you removed your hand from your stomach and glared at me, you aren't drinking but eyeing the wine glasses around you, bags under your eyes indicating you are stressed and tired" I pause and then say "your freshly painted nails are in perfect condition except your left thumb due to stressful nail biting and whenever Victor looks at me you shoot daggers at me" I say and then add "I'm sorry if I outed your secret" I say and she sighs "you're right" Victor looks at Liliana and says "you're pregnant?" and she nods "no more missions until after you've given birth and fully recovered" he adds and she nods "yes boss" she says. I look at Liliana and back at Victor "I can keep her safe" I say and he looks at me "I don't want to take any chances" he says but then nods "if you're sure" he says and I smile.
