It all started innocently enough. Minho was a new student in Jisoo and Chaeyoung's class, and he quickly became popular with everyone. He was friendly, charming, and always had a smile on his face. Jisoo didn't pay much attention to him at first, but she couldn't help but notice how often he seemed to be around Chaeyoung.
At first, it didn't bother her. After all, Chaeyoung was kind to everyone, and it was no surprise that Minho wanted to be friends with her. But as the days went by, Jisoo noticed that Minho was always finding excuses to talk to Chaeyoung, to sit next to her in class, or to walk with her during recess. It was clear to Jisoo that Minho was interested in more than just friendship. One day during lunch, Jisoo saw Minho and Chaeyoung sitting together under a tree, away from everyone else. She watched from a distance as they laughed together, and she felt an uncomfortable twist in her stomach. It wasn't just the fact that they were spending time together—it was the way Minho looked at Chaeyoung, with a certain glint in his eyes that made Jisoo's chest tighten. She hated him.
As the week went on, the situation only got worse. Minho was always there, always close to Chaeyoung, and Jisoo's jealousy started to boil over. She found herself glaring at Minho whenever he was around, and her mood soured whenever she saw them together. But what really pushed her over the edge was when she saw Minho kiss Chaeyoung on the cheek.
It happened after school one day. Jisoo was walking toward the school gate when she saw Minho and Chaeyoung talking near the entrance. She slowed down, watching them closely, and then she saw it—Minho leaned in and kissed Chaeyoung on the cheek. Chaeyoung laughed, seemingly unbothered, but Jisoo felt her heart drop.
That night at dinner, Jisoo was unusually quiet, pushing her food around her plate with a scowl on her face. Taeyeon and Tiffany noticed immediately.
"Jisoo, are you okay?" Tiffany asked, her voice full of concern.
Taeyeon looked at her, her brow furrowed. "You've been upset all week. Did something happen?"
Jisoo hesitated for a moment, not sure if she wanted to talk about it. But the frustration and jealousy that had been building up inside her were too much to keep in anymore."It's Minho," she finally blurted out, setting her fork down. "He's been spending a lot of time with Chaeyoung, and I don't like it."
Tiffany and Taeyeon exchanged a glance, and then Tiffany spoke gently, "Minho? The new boy? Is he being mean to Chaeyoung?"
Jisoo shook her head, her frustration growing. "No, he's not mean. He's just... too close to her. He kissed her on the cheek today, and it made my stomach hurt. And it's not just that. He's always around her, and she doesn't spend as much time with me anymore."
Taeyeon leaned forward, her voice calm and reassuring. "Jisoo, it sounds like you're feeling jealous."
Jisoo looked at her and then nodded slowly. "I am. It's like every time I see them together, I feel angry. And when Chaeyoung doesn't spend lunch with me or doesn't play with me, it makes me feel even worse."
Tiffany reached across the table and placed a comforting hand on Jisoo's. "It's okay to feel jealous sometimes. But you have to remember that Chaeyoung is allowed to have other friends, too. She cares about you a lot, but she might want to make new friends as well."
Jisoo's eyes filled with tears. "But what if she likes him more than me? What if she stops wanting to be my friend?"
Taeyeon sighed softly and gave Jisoo's hand a squeeze. "Sweetheart, Chaeyoung loves spending time with you. She's your best friend, and that's not going to change because of one boy. But you have to let her decide who she wants to hang out with."
The next day, Jisoo tried to take her parents' advice to heart, but it wasn't easy. She spent most of the day avoiding both Minho and Chaeyoung, not wanting to see them together. But during recess, she decided to join the boys in a game of basketball, hoping it would take her mind off things.
As she dribbled the ball and prepared to make a shot, she felt a tap on her shoulder. Jisoo turned around and saw Chaeyoung standing there with a smile on her face.
"Hey," Chaeyoung signed, her expression warm. "Can we talk?"
Jisoo blinked in surprise but nodded. She passed the ball to one of the other boys and followed Chaeyoung to a quieter spot near the edge of the playground.
Chaeyoung looked at her apologetically and started signing. "I'm sorry I haven't been spending as much time with you. Minho has been hanging around a lot, and it's been hard to get away."
Jisoo's jealousy melted away instantly as she saw the sincerity in Chaeyoung's eyes. "It's okay," she signed back, trying to keep her emotions in check. "I was just worried that you liked him more than me."
Chaeyoung shook her head firmly. "No way! You're my best friend, Jisoo. No one can replace you. Minho's nice, but he's just a friend."
Jisoo felt a wave of relief wash over her, and she couldn't help but smile. "Really?"
Chaeyoung nodded and then signed, "He kept following me around, but I kept thinking about you. I wanted to spend time with you, but he wouldn't leave me alone."
Jisoo's heart swelled with happiness, and she suddenly felt silly for all the jealousy she had felt. "Do you want to join the game?" she asked, hoping to make up for the lost time.
Chaeyoung shook her head again, her smile bright. "No, I'll just watch. I like watching you play."
Jisoo's stomach did a little flip, but this time it wasn't from jealousy. It was something else—something that made her feel warm and happy inside. She didn't fully understand it yet, but she knew one thing for sure: Chaeyoung was special to her, and she always would be.
