Darkness

A/N- enjoyyyyy~~~

Chuuya hated the dark.

He wasnʼt scared of it, of course not. Thatʼd be absurd. Chuuya simply hated the way it reminded him of the moments he was under Corruptionʼs hold and had no control over himself or his actions. The darkness was familiar, a place he knew all too well. He did not like the familiarity of it though. It only brought about a severe case of anxiety to run through him in rapid waves that never seemed to have an end.

It was sufficient to say, he had plenty of lights in his apartment. He also kept candles as a precaution after he had to experience a blackout that had delved him into a panic attack lasting for four hours, despite the lights turning back on almost two hours into it. He brought himself out of it with utmost difficulty, having not experienced such an extreme one before.

He let no one know of this fact. Lest they exploit it.

But alas, he couldnʼt stay hidden away forever.

Especially not when he hated the dark.

It was a dull Wednesday.

A chill was in the air, brought about by the heavy clouds decorating the sky with greys, dazzling flashes carried amongst the serrated lightning, roaring sounds of thunder following seconds after. A thrumming remained in the gusts of wind. The clouds had yet to open up their rainfall. Chuuya didnʼt doubt for a second it would soak him to his bones in mere moments—or it would be the case if he wasnʼt in the safety of his own apartment, watching everything play out from the glass doors leading to his balcony.

He sat on the floor, leaned against his bed and faced towards the balcony door. The nightlight was on, casting shadows in the crevices it could not reach. Chuuya would have loved to enjoy the weather—the cold felt pleasant against his heated skin—but he could not do that. Not with the absolutely sore muscles he acquired after returning from a lengthy and exhausting mission. Thankfully, he managed to be done with it before it could start raining, otherwise he wouldʼve let himself be soaked to wash away the dirt, grime and blood that stuck to him like a leech.

Tired out of his damn mind, in the safety of his bedroom, Chuuya let his guard down easily enough.

A few minutes passed, he remained unmoving, relaxed against the huge mattress and the fairly tall bed. The chill from the ground slowly pervaded his body, numbing him to the annoying sensations of the occasional surges of pain radiating throughout his system. Holding up his phone, Chuuya checked the time.

9:27 P.M.

Chuuya frowned, putting his phone down beside him, he wondered why Dazai was still not back. He should probably call—

Complete darkness washed over him.

Chuuya stilled.

For long moments, not a breath left him, neither a twitch nor a strand of hair moved. He tried blinking several times to adjust, but even the city lights did not help. Coming to a striking conclusion, Chuuya belatedly realized this might be a complete power outage in this part of the city, if not the whole of it. Staying in position, he tried calming himself down, focusing with his other senses but he felt as if he was trying to walk in water.

The horns of cars from below sounded far away. His heartbeat pounded in his ears. His body felt out of place. As he held up a hand to make out the shape of it, he simply couldnʼt, no matter how hard he tried. His body felt detached from him, like he knew he was holding up his hand, but he could not see it, hence his brain could not process it properly. Chuuya barely realized how bad of a response that was until his short pants of breath returned with barely any ability to inhale properly, let alone exhale with all the grace he could not muster up.
