Everyone knows what happened in West Bengal and everyone is seeing how the system is working in order to protect the 'Criminal'. We as a country became independent such long time ago, but nothing really has changed even after all this time.
Here people have always protected criminals and questioned the victim. They never once said that " it's the fault of the rapist and he should be punished" but always said " she must have done something that's why this happened to her."
These people of this country, the government and the society has made it hell for a women in this country. Even after 78 years, their insensitivity towards everything and propaganda to use it for their own benefit has left us with nothing but shame and fear.
I as a women of this nation fear not just for me but every women out there. What kind of independence is this where we don't feel safe even in our own country! What kind of law and action is this that can't even give us protection and justice! What kind of system is this where the criminal is not afraid and rather protected!
There is no equality and truthfulness in the law and justice here I feel people don't even have faith in it. It's high time we make amendments and make such laws that can truly bring us justice and protect us from any such thing.
What happened was absolutely wrong and actions should be taken not just for this, but for such things that have happened in past and might happen in a longer run. Long enough time have been wasted on futile things, now we need to look these real problems and solve the serious issues completely from the root.
As a society we have to bring changes in ourselves to make a society that stands with the victim and support them to bring the justice and not blame them. We don't need the mentality where a victim is blamed and the criminal is protected by the people.
An overall change is needed to be made and it should be done seriously and as immediately as possible.
Criminals are not afraid of law and justice in this country, we have to make sure that there is law and action that punishes the criminal and makes sure that nobody has guts to do any such crime.
We as society and person need to teach our brother's /father's /uncle's /cousin's and any male we know that eve teasing, cat calling, harassing, touching someone against their will, forcing yourself on someone, shaming them for their gender, sexualizing someone, calling them names for any reason is not right and should not be done in any case or senerio. Awareness should be spread and taught to the males and the citizens of this country.
Hiding, keeping silent and just watching is not gonna do anything, we need to take a step forward together and stand against the power and system to bring these changes.
Instead of teaching our daughters to not do things, we need to teach our son's to respect others and not do such heinous inhuman things.
Please whatever effort you can make small or big just do it. Even a smallest effort from your side can change big things. We need to fight for this and we will.
