hearing my denial mamma angrily said

"Meera, I'm not asking you, I'm telling you. You have to get engaged with him tomorrow at any cost. We've already informed all our closest relatives. It's about our reputation, and we can't risk it because of your silly reasons. We are a middle-class family and can't afford to ruin our reputation. If you don't agree even after this, then you will see my lifeless body. Mind it."

Now this is too much for me. On one side, that bloody stalker, and on the other side, Mamma. What do they think? Am I some kind of robot? Just listening to everyone and doing everything

they say? I am also human. I also have feelings, insecurities, and my own wants. I also feel pain, sorrow, and happiness. Thinking about all this, in my anger I yelled at her, saying,

"I am your daughter, mama, not any robot. I also have feelings. For the sake of your reputation, I can't ruin my whole life. Please try to understand. You can't force your own daughter like this. And do you really think your reputation is more valued than your daughter's life?"

Hearing this, she stared at me for seconds, then said, "Yes..." Pausing for a moment, she continued,

"Yes, for middle-class families like us, our reputation is more important than everything."

After hearing her words, I was really shocked. How could she say that I mean nothing to her? Didn't she love me? Didn't she care for me?

"How can you do this to me, Mamma?"

I shouted as I stood up from the couch.

Upon hearing this, she diverted her gaze from me and said,

"Don't be a burden on us Meera. This is the right time to get engaged. Moreover, he is a really nice guy. He will love you."

Hearing these words, I felt numb. Did she really see me as a burden? Does she truly think that about me? While I was contemplating all of this, my aunt got up from the couch and stood in front of me. She said, "Didi, are you out of your mind? Why are you talking like this? If she is not interested, then don't force her."

Hearing her, Mamma looked at Maasi and then looked to the other side, ignoring her. But Maasi continued and said, "If you feel burdened by her, then I will be with her. I will take care of her."

Hearing this, Mamma frowned and said,

"I didn't say this to hurt her. I was telling her to get engaged and get married, that's it."

after this, Maasi was about to say something when I stopped her, stepped forward and said, "if you really feel burdened by me, then I will never come here again. If you only cared about your reputation, then okay, I will get engaged and get married. But...."

Here she looked at me after my brief confession and stared into my eyes. With a heavy heart, I continued and spoke."I will never come here, and I will cut all relation with this family and you. Don't ever try to contact me."

After saying these words in anger, I sensed a shift in her emotions for a few minutes, but then her eyes became cold and emotionless again. Honestly, this shattered my heart.after a long silence, she turned to Maasi's side and said

Maansi, make sure she is ready by 11 o'clock tomorrow morning."

Saying this, she went to her room and closed the door. But as she closed the door, it felt like she had closed off every hope, light, and way in our bond and in my life. Because of all this, I couldn't hold back my tears anymore and broke down. It really hurts when our loved ones betray us or make us feel like we are nothing to them. It hurts to the core. Seeing my state, maasi came to console me, but I stopped her and ran to my room.

AUTHOR POV:

After entering the room, Meera cried her heart out. It's really a big heartbreak for her. Her own mother said that she is a burden to her. This is a nightmare for her because she loves her mother and her family more than anything else. There is no other meaning of love to her than her mother, but today she also betrayed her by saying that she is nothing more than a burden. It's really hard for her to believe.

After crying for some time, she thought to inform Adi, thinking he will do something to help her cancel the engagement. With all these thoughts in mind, she tried to call him, but he is out of coverage, which made her more frustrated.

She tried to contact him so many times, but every time it was not reachable. After some time, she gave up on it as well and started to cry again, sitting on the floor. She lost her last hope, and this made her even weaker and her heart broken.

On the other side, Maansi entered Vidya's room and closed the door. She looked at Vidya, who was sitting on the bed, resting her head on the headrest with her eyes closed. Maansi said,

"Didi, what kind of behaviour is this? How can you talk like this with your own daughter?"

Upon hearing her, Vidya opened her eyes and looked at Maansi, but without saying anything, she turned her gaze to the other side. Seeing her sister's silence, Maansi went to the bed and sat in front of Vidya, saying...

"Didi, you can't ignore my question like this. She is very young to get married. Why are you forcing her like this?"

Hearing her, Vidya looked at Maansi and said,

"Maansi, I have my own reasons. If I doesn't force her like this, she will never agree to get married. Now we are with her, okay. But what about after us? She has to spend her life alone, and I don't want that. We both know why she is not ready to get married, but because of that past resons, she can't ruin her life, right?"

Hearing her, Maasi stared with a sad face at Vidya for minutes and said,

"Didi, I know you are very worried about her future, but because of that, we can't hurt her like this, right? Though it's not like we are going to die or something is going to happen to us, she is a young child. Although she has the right to choose her partner, we can't force our choice on her, right?"

"Who knows about the future, Maansi? What if I die before she agrees to marry?"

Hearing her words, Maansi got shocked and said,

"Didi, why are you talking like this? Is everything okay?"

Hearing her, Vidya realized what she said and quickly normalized her facial expression. She said, "No, no, no, everything is okay. I am fine. I just said it simply, that's it."

As she said this, she tried to casualize the conversation, but Maansi felt it was weird because of the sudden change in Vidya's emotion. Thinking that she might be overthinking it, Maansi ignored it and asked,

"Okay, what if he denies the engagement tomorrow? Will you cancel it?"

Upon hearing her question, Vidya thought for a moment, stared at Maansi, and then said,

"Okay, if he doesn't agree to this relationship, then I will cancel it."

Upon hearing this, Maansi's eyes lit up with hope, and with a smile, she nodded at Vidya and went to her room. After Maansi left, Vidya again went into deep thought, looking at the direction in which Maansi had gone.
