Tengen tried to hold Gyutaro's attacks while Tanjiro tried to chop his head off. Gyutaro quickly swung his sickle upwards, piercing under his chin and out through his tongue.
"Cut it!" Tanjiro almost chopped his head when Tengen pulled back, held the collar of Tanjiro's shirt and pulled him away from Gyutaro, leaving Tanjiro's sword in his neck.
Tanjiro had the chance to see her Hinokami Kagura in all it's glory, it looked like a stream of fire steaming ahead at full speed until she swung her blades through the cut from Tanjiro's sword and chopped his head off, "Hell's Equinox." Her swing blew up everything in the three-meter radius.
Tanjiro thanked Tengen for pulling him out in time, and just before Gyutaro blew up, Tengen pulled Miyuki and Tanjiro out of the blast radius.
Miyuki just blinked at the aftermath, "is he dead? Are they both dead?"
"They are!" Inosuke said.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes!"
But there was a small problem.
Tengen wasn't talking to her.
He ignored her the entire way back, even during the mission report submission. He had to, however, stay back to give Ubuyashiki his individual report.
When they got back to Tengen's, he even avoided dinner and locked himself in his room. Miyuki gave him some space since she knew that too much happened on his first comeback mission.
The next morning, she had to run to Ubuyashiki's mansion since her Kasugai crow said it was an emergency. She quickly looked around for Tengen but couldn't find him anywhere.
"He went out a while ago. I haven't seen him come back."
With that, she made her way to Ubuyashiki's.
When she reached the meeting, she was surprised to see all the other Hashira there as well. She met eyes with Tengen, who didn't say a word, but wouldn't stop staring at her with a blank face either.
"Miyuki..." Ubuyashiki finally started, "I have received your recommendation from Tengen."
"What?!" She didn't understand why he didn't want her there anymore. She trusted him with this and he promised that he'd see it through. He refused to look at her for the rest of the meeting.
"Well, then..." Ubuyashiki had a smile on his face, "we have a new Pillar.
The Earth Hashira - Haganezuka Miyuki."

Her cheeks puffed as she walked back to Tengen's. Old lady Tsubari was so happy for her that she'd made a grand spread, "go put your uniform away and come have lunch with us!"
Tengen did not show up.
"Where is he?!" She asked the old housekeeper and she pointed at the end of the corridor indicating that he was in his room.
"Tengen sama!" She called out to him, "we need to talk!"
She didn't hear him answer.
"Fine. At least have lunch!"
Still no answer, "why are you mad at me? I listened to everything you said. You went back on your word and recommended me, and now you're mad at me. Are you angry because I went to Yoshiwara? Or did I say something? Did I do something to upset you?"
She waited for a while outside his door but he wouldn't open it, "do you hate me?" She felt hurt that he was like this. She had no idea why he was mad at her and he wouldn't even tell her. "Do you want me gone?"
She waited for another minute, "okay, then. Thank you for everything, I'm very grateful. I'll pack up and leave in an hour." She said, "since you've decided to hate me for god-knows-what reason, I won't bother you from now, and I'm not your student anymore. Goodbye."
Just as she turned to leave, Tengen opened his door, "you're not my student anymore." She was going to miss his voice, his warmth, and everything about him.
"Yes, that's exactly what I said," she knew that leaving right away was the best thing to do, but just as she walked away from him, she felt his grip on her wrist before he pulled her into his room and shut the door behind her.
"Tengen s-"
"You're not my student anymore," he looked so hazy, with a slight tint of red on his face. It was almost like he was saying it to himself.
He held her face before leaning down swiftly, her back hitting the door as he finally kissed her.
He pulled back to look at her face, "do I stop?" He was so close to her that she could hear her heart pumping in her ears, "please don't."
She finally realized why he recommended her.
He kissed her again, deeply, amorously, passionately, his hands reaching the back of her thighs to rope her legs around his torso as she put her arms around his neck to deepen the kiss.
He impatiently moved to her neck, finding her soft spots, making her moan a little, loving every inch of it.
"Why the fuck are you wearing Rengoku's shirt?" He pulled it off of her before dropping her on his bed, "you can wear mine instead."
"Tengen sama..." it was his cue to take his shirt off, and how she'd dreamed about these very moments just a few nights ago.
He pulled his crystal headband out and let his hair loose before getting into bed with her. He found her neck again and pressed kisses down to her chest.
"You're not my student anymore."
"I'm not your student anymore."
