"I don't have to tell you this, but I don't want to mix my personal life with business," Tengen said when they were alone for a minute. She knew that, for a very long time, Mitsuri was flirting with him, and he always laughed along. She didn't dig into it further to find out if they had history, and she didn't want to. He'd tell her if he wanted to."Oh, I fully understand. Why would I say anything when-"
"It's nothing serious and you're not even my girlfriend, I know." He tried to complete her sentence like it made the most sense.
"That wasn't what I was going to say, but thank you for letting me know what you think." She said before leaving him behind to talk to Shinobu and Mitsuri. It was all getting too tiring for her.
She was in her seat for lunch, in between Obanai (to her right) and Tomioka (to her left) while Tengen was seated opposite her seat but between Sanemi and Himejima.
Obanai was side-eyeing Tengen, Sanemi and Miyuki to see what drama would unfold.
"I don't know what you're expecting to see here, Obanai san, but you won't find it~" she softly sang next Obanai, knowing how observant he is.
"Hmm?" He turned to face her, "you're talking like you're trying extra hard to hide something."
"I know you take pride in your deduction skills, but have you ever felt what it's like to be wrong?" She had a small smile on her face and Obanai's eye twitched.
He looked to his right where Mitsuri was seated, "Mitsuri, I don't like her." He pointed at Miyuki, "do you want to switch seats with me?"
"Miyuki? Why, she's the sweetest person I've seen, and won't you disrupt the entire seating arrangement since I'm supposed to be sitting with Shinobu?"
"Are you worried I'll say something?" Miyuki wasn't even looking at him, but she knew exactly how his expression was.
He groaned in disappointment, "you're a brat. A lousy one." He directed it at Miyuki while they were all waiting for lunch to be served.
"Oh, I'm sorry if what I said got on your nerves. Not everyone can have the spine to push Shinazugawa san to talk to me after fully knowing what he did," she finally looked at him dead in the eyes, but without losing the smile on her face, and was voice was still as soft and polite.
"WHAT DID YOU SAY?!" Obanai was furious.
"Oh, you wanted a scene here, right? See, you caused one," she joyfully said and he lost it, "I WILL NOT SIT NEXT TO THIS BRAT!" He announced and Tengen covered his face behind his fist to hold back his laughter.
"I can switch places with you," Sanemi offered.
Tomioka held her hand to make her stop, even he was trying very hard to not laugh, "that's enough, Miyuki." He ended up giggling a little.
"Well, I'm not the one with a problem."
Tengen didn't pay attention to the fact that Obanai and Sanemi had switched places. He was more focused on how Tomioka held her hand, and didn't let go of it.
He was further irritated with the fact that she didn't pull out of his hold, making him wonder how comfortable she was with him.
"Oh, it's you now," she said when he sat down next to her, "I heard you took a few members of the corps with you on your last mission. How many did you end up sacrificing?"
"Nobody died." He said.
"That's shocking," she mumbled before she turned to look at Tomioka who was squeezing her hand to make her stop, "fine, I'll stop." Her hand hurt like it was about to break.
